Paranormal News of the Week
Scientists Solve Mystery of Narwhal's Tusk
Remarkable new footage has finally helped scientists to explain the purpose of the narwhal's 9ft 'horn'. Native to the Arctic waters around Greenland, Canada, and Russia, the narwhal is a species of toothed whale that has been likened to the mythical unicorn due to its unique horn-like tusk.
Exactly what this tusk is used for however has long remained something of a mystery, but now new video footage recorded by two drones in the waters off the coast of north-east Canada has, for the first time, revealed that this mysterious protrusion is actually used to ram in to and stun fish.
Measuring up to 9ft in length, the tusk is essentially a canine tooth containing thousands of nerve endings which enable the animals to sense things moving in the water around them. The new footage, which can be viewed below, was particularly difficult to capture as the species is notoriously shy which has also made studying the animals' behavior something of a challenge.

London street swarmed by thousands of bees
Pedestrians were left ducking for cover as the swarm descended on a crowded street earlier this week. The harrowing incident, which occurred along Greenwich Church Street, saw a huge cloud of the buzzing insects swarming around cars, traffic lights and even passers-by.
Local jewelry shop owner Abigail Hering described the scene as "absolutely crazy".
"It was just literally swarming," she said. "Millions of them on the traffic lights. And while I was videoing them I looked down and I could see literally the front of me covered in bees. They were on me. They were on everybody. They were in your hair, on your top."
Fortunately though, beekeeper Phil Clarkson and his wife Tracey were able to collect most of the insects in a mobile hive and offered their reassurances that the bees were not a threat.
"A swarm is very benign, the likelihood of getting stung is very, very rare, and in most cases it's only when people swat them or squash them on their body that the bee will sting them," he said. "They're very calm and very docile when they're swarming."

The Brocken Experiment: When Science and the Occult Went Head-to-Head on a German Mountaintop
Germany’s Harz mountains have historically been associated with witches, spirits, and black magic, particularly the range’s highest peak, the Brocken. Back in 1932, one brave skeptic set out to test just how mystical the Brocken truly is by performing a ritual there designed to turn a goat into a little boy.
That skeptic was Harry Price, an early paranormal investigator and debunker. Over the course of his long career, Price labored to bring reason and a scientific eye to the world of the metaphysical. By the time he decided to take a goat to the Brocken, he’d already been responsible for blowing the lid off of spiritualists, psychic photographers, and at least one talking mongoose.
Price’s attempt at a magical ritual atop the Brocken came about thanks in part to the writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Goethe famously had an interest in the occult, and visited the Brocken peak, hiking a path that is still memorialized as the Goethe Way. Inspired by the mysterious atmosphere of the Harz region, Goethe set portions of his most famous play, Faust, there, including the surreal walpurgisnacht scene where the devil Mephistopheles leads Faust around the Brocken, observing witches and even a gorgon. “Paganism died hard in the Harz country,” Price would later write.
Goethe died in 1832, but his legacy is celebrated around the Harz, and on the centennial anniversary of the author’s death, Price got in on festivities. That year, he and fellow philosopher C.E.M. Joad traveled to the Brocken to stage their own large-scale magic ritual.

Expanded Perspectives: Mothman, Dogman, & More with Lon Strickler
On this weeks episode of Expanded Perspectives, the guys start the show off talking about scientists have discovered that ingesting bogers is good for teeth, and overall health. Then, A Canadian witness at Edson reported a glowing object following her vehicle just 20 feet overhead. Then, this summer, darkness will fall across the face of America. The birds will stop singing, the temperatures will drop and the stars will become visible in the daytime sky. In about 100 days, a total solar eclipse will sweep across the continental United States for the first time since 1918. Astronomers are calling it the Great American Eclipse. For the amateur sky-watcher, a total eclipse presents a rare opportunity to witness a cosmic hiccup in our day-night cycle. For solar astronomers, however, the eclipse offers something else: three minutes (give or take) to collect as much data as possible about the sun’s usually hidden outer atmosphere. Then, the host of the Italian paranormal Youtube channel, The Theory of Truth, spoke of his strange creature encounter in the summer of 2011. After the break Cam and Kyle speak with Lon Strickler about many of the recent Mothman sightings near the city of Chicago.

Astonishing Legends: Pere Cheney: The Town That Disappeared
The logging town of Pere Cheney, Michigan once showed a lot of promise as a place where hardworking men and women of the late 19th century could raise a family — that is until two epidemics of diphtheria and devastating fires reduced it to a ghost town. And if you believe the accounts of some visitors to the nearby cemetery, Pere Cheney's tragic fate doomed it to be an actual town of ghosts; the playful ghosts of the children who fell victim to the disease. But who's to blame for the sad ending of this once thriving village? Surely something, or someone, must be the cause of the town's bad luck, and if you believe the local legends, that someone was a witch who cursed it right before she was hanged and buried in that very cemetery. Or maybe she was burned? Or maybe it wasn't a witch at all, but a banished unwed mother who cursed the lot of it just the same? Whatever legend you choose to believe, whether the cemetery of Pere Cheney is a playground of the damned or no more spooky than your average graveyard, those that have felt its chill can tell you that it only takes a little bit of haunting to put the fear in you.

The Higherside Chats Podcast: Miguel Conner | Gnosticism, Archons, & Simon Magus
While many of us will be familiar with the term Gnosticism due to it’s influence among a wide array of topics, including the use of ritual magic, secret societies, and even the very process of awakening itself, one must admit the waters have been muddied throughout history. With words like ‘Demiurge’ and ‘Archons’ freely thrown about, putting a finer point on this magical hodgepodge of buzzwords can prove to be rather difficult. Luckily, guest Miguel Conner of AeonByte joins The Higherside to help us tighten our loose grasp of understanding about this ancient mystic philosophy.
