There are a bunch of cunts on this planet that run their mouths and act like they have far more power than they actually possess. This has only grown with the development of the internet and the anonymity it bestows on its users.
There is also a fair amount of bullshit over the 'net as well.
That being said, human history is full of situations where, after being attacked, said polity subsequently fills with cold rage and determination, and promptly pounds the opposing polity into the ground. Or, to be honest, in other circumstances, the initial attacking polity simply possesses too much of an overwhelming advantage (or multiple advantages) and clobbers the attacked polity into submission.
We wish for peace, but still prepare for war. If a civilization cannot defend itself against threats, it is not long before said civilization often crumbles; unless there is a larger polity that can protect the pacifist polity against said threats.
