Thomas Aquinas posited that because things exist, there must have been a creator. Things don't come from nothing, the universe did not spring into being without some sort of catalyst or creator. Now this does not prove the existence of a white bearded judeo christian all knowing all powerful all loving god, but it does provide a scientific proof for the barest definition of what we might call a god or creator, the catalyst god. Something at the beginning caused something from nothing, we know nothing does not make something without outside influence.

The mirror of that though is that this disproves the many 'look at how intricate the universe is' arguments for god. The proof is designed to say 'if something impossible happens, it must be god'. So the earth orbiting the sun in the exact habitable zone or eyeballs being really complicated is not proof that god was involved. If there was life on the sun, or if our eyeballs allowed the same detailed sight but were full of cherry pie, that's proof of god.

True, this does beg the question 'who created god if god' but then you have to come to the conclusion that something had to be first, a creation that just was. Also, this is a loose definition of creator. If I walk into a room and throw laundry everywhere, I am certainly the creator of the mess, but I don't know if that necessarily makes me the god of the mess. I didn't do it for reasons other than my own, in this case laziness, a tree falling on a house is not necessarily the god of the destroyed house, but it is the creator. It's the shallowest definition, but it's something.
