Besides Plato's writings, there is the predominance of rh negative blood types in early western Europeans (basques and Celts) that some people have thought indicates a migratory spread from west to east all up and down the Western European coast line, rather than east to west as is commonly thought. Some have taken this as a sign that they could be refugees of Atlantis.

There are other tidbits that Atlantis provides an interesting explanation for, for example the evidence of an earlier cartographic tradition in some old European maps, where they appear wrong except if you took them to depict coastlines prior to the end of the last ice age, therefore with correspondingly low sea levels.

Unfortunately, there is no true corroborative evidence for Atlantis. All we really have is a constellation of relatively minor anomalies for which Plato's Atlantis provides a convenient, though somewhat threadbare, explanation.

Atlantis was located where the Caribbean Islands and Yucatan are now during the last ice age when sea levels were much lower.

Plato was retelling a much older account from Egypt the great Athenian lawmaker Solon had heard on a trip there.

The Aegean Sea used to be an Atlantean colony and the antediluvian Greek ancestors were fighting a war against them.

A group of darkside/materialistic/control obcessed Atlanteans decided to use technology normally used to provide electrical power as a super weapon to win the war but they fucked up, lost control of the weapon and caused a global cataclysm, destroying most of Atlantis in the process. Eastern United States and Carribean Indians are the genetic descendants of the largest population group in Old Atlantis.

Knowledge about the advanced civilizations of the antediluvian world is suppressed by The Powers That Be because Atlantis not only had technology comparible to our own but they were also far more spiritually advanced than we currently are. And that causes problems for The Powers That Be who want to turn the rest of hummanity into atheistic consumer zombie slaves. The Powers That Be, are themselves, reincarnations of those darkside Atlanteans. They have destroyed the world before in their quest for global domination and will probably end up doing it again.

Although many will tell you Atlantis never existed, it is not that much of a stretch to think there was once an "advanced" ancient civilization that has never before been discovered. In the wake of recent discoveries such as the Gobekli Tepe, our understanding of how advanced ancient civilizations actually were are constantly changing even today.

In regards to the physical location of Atlantis, Plato's timing for when the island supposedly existed coincidentally matches an accurate account of geological events (which occurred around 9,600 BC) in the Black Sea-Mediterranean Corridor.

Glacial melt-waters, at the end of the Younger Dryas Ice Age caused a dramatic rise in the sea level of the Caspian Sea. An earthquake caused a fracture, which allowed the Caspian Sea to flood across the fertile plains of the supposed Atlantis. Simultaneously the earthquake caused the vast farmlands to sink, forming the present day Sea of Azov, the shallowest sea in the world.

It must be considered that there is not enough concrete evidence to support this assumption fully but remains one of the better theories for the existence of Atlantis.
