Crazy things like doing MOPP training in White Sands, never getting 3G signal until the Airbase launched rockets and missiles over head. Miss those days of dehydration and checking MySpace on my shit-tier phone.

OP here, I'll relate some other parts of the story I remember.

I remember that he said they would blindfold his squad and him on the way to the fake village so that they wouldn't know the exact location. That went on for weeks/ months till some civvie contractor/ scientist showed up and took them to the prison/ med facility which was under attack.

Alright. Keep in mind it was awhile ago when he told me, and I was a little bit drunk (the only way to get him to talk about the stuff he saw)

>HH gives the other guy a nod as they toss the body on the pile, and the guy starts lighting up all the houses

>Tries talking to a few of the guys whom had helped with the bodies
>They all get scared looks on their faces, and say they dunno what he's talking about
>Later that night while they're all sleeping granpa feels someone put a hand over his mouth and a knife to his throat
>A voice tells him that this is just a warning and to forget the shit he saw
>Granpa pisses himself and nods
>Knife goes away, so does the hand, and he lays there awake the rest of the night outta fear
>Doesn't talk about it with anyone until he tells me the story years later
