I'm currently reading through Sitchin's Earth Chronicles, a lot of the Earth history stuff makes sense so far. My current opinion is that there was at least one genetically created race, which then interbred with the natives at the time. There is still a large gap between homo neanderthalensis and the "modern" human skeletons, the oldest of which is dated around 200k years. It seems as if homo sapiens appeared out of nowhere around that time.

I don't think so. It makes sense on an evolutionary standpoint that what made us the best species on the planet is us taking care of each other. Remember that during a time giant reptiles used to rule the planet. Those were called dinosaurs. We had to hide from them in tunnels where we'd cuddle up to keep warm, brought food to each other and whatnot. This is why we fear reptiles. Also, notice how we don't live underground anymore but still feel the need to be sheltered in a comfy place. Dinosaurs didn't build huts.

At a certain point Dinosaurs went extinct. We aren't completely sure why yet but it gave us a chance to go to the surface and see the outside world a bit. That is when turned to ape like creatures.

Now is the truly fascinating part. We learned to write. What would be the first thing a species want to write as soon as they learn it? Probably how to survive. That's religion. Bewusstsein is the point where the AYYs made their move. The main difference between animals and humans isnt the intelligence, but the knowledge.
