Does a haunting continue if the structure it was attached to is destroyed? Are there any instances of this occurring?

I thought the basis for like, 95%+ of horror/haunting movies was that the spirit/ghost/poltergeist follows the family when they move elsewhere, hoping to get rid of it? There's gotta be loads of horror movies where they burn the place down, to no avail of relief.

Yes and No.
Hauntings tend to be more demonic in nature
whereas
ghosts have always been spotted on a site that was either destroyed or different from it's original appearance. Instances relate to most sightings as current<i.e still happening>

Yes, if it's not properly exorcized.

Well, you sort of have a point. I suppose it depends upon whether the spirits are attached to the house, to the land, or to the people residing within.
I don't have any cases in front of me to suggest anything, OP, but given that some hauntings BEGIN with the destruction of a house... it may often have to do with the memory more than the building itself.
ghost dont haunt places, they haunt minds.
