I had an internship with someone who worked at a walmart when they were in high-school. Apparently there was an old man he worked with who was relatively normal, just a nice dude who wasn't too bright. My friend said one day the old man messed up on something while working and a manager escorted him to a back room. The room is always locked and nobody really knows what's in it.

When the old man came back out of the room with the manager the old man supposedly had a blank stare and was all monotone. He never came out the same since he went into that room.

It's a pretty busy day at the walmart, you haven't been to a walmart in years, but its a hot summer day and you needed new shoes.

Walmart always cuts corner when it comes to production. You find a letter under the sole of a shoe while trying it on. It looks like a cry for help from the factory, but something about it is... off. It's talking about "it".

The shoe company, which is connected to lots of other articles of clothing at the store (Big clothing company that mass produces) tried to create a material in a lab that would feel really soft to the touch so that their clothes would sell more, but this material has effects that they would not have expected. It seeps under your skin if you wear the clothes too much, and forms a parasitic relationship to you, slowly taking over your mind until you have no free will of your own. All of this is outlined and explained in the letter. At first you didn't believe it.

Problem is, a lot of your friends wear clothes from this brand. You on the other hand, haven't bought new clothes in a few years, so you missed the trend. But you have noticed that your friends have seemed a little strange lately, not acting completely like themselves...

She says "it" has a sinister plan to get back at its makers, for making it live this miserable life. It wishes it had never been created and is planning a revenge.

Suddenly, the alarm for the store goes off, the power gets shut off, and all you have for light is your phone's flashlight.

You wander around the store until you get to the doors, then you realize you are locked in.

What happens next, you can decide.

by the 20+ minutes mark, characters should be trapped inside the walmart, only escaping during the final scenes

Loss prevention officer starts there. Sees the same couple people testing some sort of electronics on people that makes them suddenly interested in something. Say chicken nuggets for one person. Shady looking types point small device at a customer and they buy chicken nuggets. Next day he sees the same person who went nuts on chicken nuggets grabbed a co workers head at mcdonalds and stuck it in the frier with the nuggets. Youd just need the fake news story(CNN can help). Maybe they go nuts on butane and set off a bomb after getting...tricked...into buying butane. They can go on a poisoning spree with nicotine after being forced to buy chewing tobacco. End of the movie protagonist gets obsessed with cameras and the government spooks testing the device force him to watch cameras for them or he tries to bust them or something.
