I read a book once about it. It was a story of some kid who had found a pair of brand new shoes on the street. Being a dumb kid, he puts them on without thinking twice, but can't seem to be able to remove them afterwards. The book progresses with the shoes gaining more and more control over the kid's legs, making him walk where he doesn't want to, stop walking at dangerous times, and even kicking the people around him. The book ends with the kid being forced to walk at the middle of a road, where he's hit by an out of control gas truck. Later, another kid is talking to his friend about how there was an explosion on a road near his house, and around the area he had found a brand new pair of shoes.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the title, but it was a story in a collection of many other ones. I think the name of one of them was "Game Over". That one struck with me the most. It was about a rich kid that downloaded some GTA esque game, which was set in the kid's town. He naturally start wrecking havoc, but then found out everything he did in the game happened in his real life town. As the story goes on, the kid loses more and more control over his character, until he can no longer play the game, only watch as his character destroyed property and killed animals and people around town, culminating in him killing the kid's father, by running him over several times. The story ends with the character breaking into the kid's mansion, killing everyone there, and finally going to the kid's bedroom, where the last thing he saw before the door got kicked in was a message in his computer that said "Game Over!".

Cinderella isn´t exactly the most comforting, normal story, is it? Specially when you look at the original Aschenputtel.

Once upon a time a young man bought a pair of Timberlands for work. He thought they were sturdy, tried and true work boots with American sportsman heritage. Turns out they're Chinese made crap. He said 5 hail Mary's and broke the curse by throwing them in the trash.

I got nightmares about old bowling shoes being shoved down my throat. The cracked soles disintegrate and fill my throat with small bits and pieces of yellow rubber. The leather tastes like rancid cheese. It's a terrifying dream.

I watched a kid, maybe 16 years old, get curb-stomped from my bedroom window last month, but was too afraid to interfere, or even to call the police. Since then, every pair of shoes I've owned has gradually grown bloodstains. Any new shoes I buy acquire them within days. Everyone else sees the stains as mud.

I never wanted to do anyone what I saw happen to that kid, but I know that I will. My shoes speak to me when I'm alone, which is most of the time now. Their soles flap in an absurd parody of mouths, and they tell me the names and locations of my victims. I blast the TV to drown them out, but I know that won't work for long.

I just bought a pair of steel-toed boots yesterday. They'll be bloody tomorrow, but this time, I'm going to be the one to make it happen.
