It's been almost a day with no thread, except the one on /his/, so here's a new one and a nice pic of NGC 6503 for you all. 18 million light years away, 30 million lightyears across. Found in the constellation Draco. Dubbed the "Lost-In-Space galaxy” by Stephen James O'Meara

One of the stars in the Dragon's Spine (Psi) hosts planets.

Interestingly, Thuban itself does not, counter to claims about reptilians.

Hello all. Just want to say I picked up Book of Thoth lately and it's revolutionizing the entire way I use and view the tarot
>>
Can anyone tell me how is reality subjective and not objective?

I have always thought about how truth is homogeneus.

Imagine this:

>A group of people see a plane
>They say "hey it's a plane"
>Another group of people see a plane in the amazon jungle
>They say "It's a huge bird of iron, it meanse that we have to sacrifice our virgins"

But the truth is that this bird of iron is actually a fucking plane, and if we tell these guys that what they see is in fact a plane and tell them how it works, they will probably think about it the next time they see one.

So if there's enough info about things, they may have a better reasoning and come to a truth, which is the same for everybody.

I think he's trying to argue against magick, calling it subjective. He seems pro-science/technology (knowledge of the plane) as he states
>better reasoning and come to a truth
Believing science to be more objective.

But he sloppily wastes his quads on such tomfoolery. Pay him no mind.

I'm trying to change my mind about it.

It might be a scientific way of thinking, but it's the only one that I have been exposed to.

I'm sorry for wasting your time, but I would aprecciate a book to read about it, or maybe give me a counter-example.

Thanks

And thanks kek for the 0000

From Crowley's Magick in Theory and Practice, Definitions and Axioms:

>12) Man is ignorant of the nature of his own being and powers. Even his idea of his limitations is based on experience of the past, and every step in his progress extends his empire. There is therefore no reason to assign theoretical limits to what he may be, or what he may do.
>(Illustration: A generation ago it was supposed theoretically impossible that man should ever know the composition of the fixed stars. It is known that our senses are adapted to receive only a fraction of the possible rates of vibration.Modern instruments have enabled us to detect some of these supra-sensibles by indirect methods, and even to use their peculiar qualities in the service of man, as in the case of the rays of Hertz and Roentgen. As Tyndall said, man might at any moment learn to percieve and utilize vibrations of all concievable and inconcievable kinds. The question of Magick is a question of discovering and employing hitherto unknown forces in nature. We know that they exist, and we cannot doubt the possibility of mental or physical instruments capable of bringing us into relation with them.)
>>
>>18940045
>>18940039
In short, science and magick are not mutually exclusive, and are both subject to massive revision as evidence indicates.

Hey.

>>18940039

>>18940045

But I'll give you counter-example. Science has many branches - some, harder sciences, others, softer/more theoretical. There are parts of science that are pure conjecture and have been (yet) unproven.

Magick has many branches too - some paths being tougher/others a little easier to digest. Some practices are grounded in fact with raw details, some are moreso ideas that are more philosophical or ethereal.

So, tell me, when faced with an unparalleled, uncanny nature between these two ideologies - which is more "correct"? Why cannot we accept concepts from BOTH?

Something I've been thinking about lately is maybe all the paranormal stuff is just extra-dimensional energy, and is interpreted subjectively, some people see angels, others see aliens, others see witches. And that's why there's so much alien activity around haunted sights like strange lights. Just an idea.

No need to bump Anon - ask, talk, and discuss magic or the occult!

/x/ is slow enough that you don't need to be very bump heavy. What topic(s) would you like to discuss?
>>
>>18940230
Okay cool, I just talked about reality as objective, now I would like to discuss some more since I'm kind of excited in learning about the occult.

Since I was a kid, I always liked to go to debate championships and I won a lot, this was because I always thought that logic was the best way to give the best solution to things.

Now I think I'm wrong in almost everything, and that my pill is just the blue pill about the (now I think I know) subjective reality, so I'm going to ask to all of you, warlocks and mages of the kingdom of occult knowledge, Is logic really the only and best way to get to a better thinking? To a consensus that would make humanity and onelself become the best part of him?

Also, is Lucifer a cool guy?

These are my doubts, I'm sorry if I'm not expressing myself correctly in English.

>Is logic really the only and best way to get to a better thinking?
Crowley forced his students to learn formal logic, teaching them himself if necessary, and was working on problems of formal logic.

I highly recommend "Godel, Escher, Bach: Eternal Golden Braid". Set theory.

She has brought you all gods, so you may save them and make them live
You have come into being in your strength, and arisen as a king.

You speak as if it were a dead religion that forces itself to the dogmas of others. Gnosticism is practical. We seek experiences from which to attain gnosis.

In any case a modern text would be the book of the Ecclesia Mysteria.

>inb4 nooo, my walls of text know better

Shit Ape, you already know there were several traditions and they never agreed in many things.
>>

Not at all, I speak of a living and recorded tradition you appear to be blissfully ignorant of.

>That enforces itself to the dogmas of others
Not particularly, but, oh look you co-opted me:
>Shit Ape, you already know there were several traditions and they never agreed in many things.
But the fact that you can't point to a single one of those several traditions to substantiate your claims is telling.

>Ecclesia Mysteria
>claims to be Sethite
>incorporates Barbeloites, says almost zero about classic Sethite cosmology/cosmogony

>We seek experiences from which to attain gnosis.
Most old Gnostic sects were initiatory and demanded study of their texts. Because, y'know, Gnosis writ large is a combined understanding of the mystical teachings in the scriptures plus phenomenological experience with them.

Direct experience but if you want to overturn the last couple thousand years of gnostic adumbration you'll need more than "muh feels".

Experience is on thing, but without comparing that experience against the historical founders of your system(s) you're doing little more than free association.

It's putting on the post-chaos hat and reforming (sub)urban folk into sabbatic craft that's the problem. The correspondences and substitutions don't write themselves. The big issue is making lore and symbolism relevant, else you end up trying to work the equivalent of chinese alchemy and have none of the cultural background that makes it understandable.

One way to think about reality being subjective is through colour. This is typically illustrated with a thought experiment: "The way you see red could look completely different than the way I see red, and we would have no way of knowing." That's not to say it's likely that everybody experiences colours differently, but it begs the question of what colour really is. It's a subjective experience. You can't describe what the colour red is in a meaningful way.

On top of that, compare the way we perceive colours around us to that of a Mantis Shrimp. They have twelve colour receptors in their eyes, compared to us, who only have three - therefore, they are capable of perceiving a much wider range, colours we can't imagine. There's no reason that the range of colour we see is any more or less an objective view of reality than the Shrimp's. Truth can't be homogeneous if there are such basic differences in the way that we perceive reality.

Ape, any thoughts on the impact of opiate use/addiction on the astral senses, scrying ability, etc? I feel like it inhibited mine quite a bit (or perhaps they are just enhanced from my body repairing/resetting itself), but if I chip these days it does not have this effect. Then I read about people who were addicted throughout massive parts of their occult careers and did just fine.

Is it the physical effects of the drug, or maybe the secondary aspects that accompany heroin addiction in the modern western world, that may be having the inhibiting effect? Do you have personal experience with this? Thanks

Alright, so what's the actual deal with occultism like Hermeticism, the Golden Dawn, the White Brotherhood, Fraternity of the Internal Light, Rosicrucianism, etc?

Are they all paths to the divine and the monad/God? Or are they Luciferian/Satanism in disguise meant to lure one into the depths of hell?

My father was a Rosicrucian and brought me up on the path and I've been delving into it further as I'm an adult, but I've been reading conflicting reports on it by religious folk that seem to think it's related to Lucifer/Satan.

Any clarification on this matter? And are the fraternities/orders I mentioned good paths to follow? This subject really interests me and I feel a connection to it, as if I have an internal understanding of the precepts and knowledge of the occult, and I want to delve deeper, but I don't want to tarnish my soul.

Thanks.

With autistic dedication, how fast can I learn to Astral Project? Which method is best for this endeavor?

If you are IN a Rosicrucian out fit and are genuinely concerned it's Luciferian, one I dunno where you'd get that idea save from shitty YT bible thumpers shitting their drawers at anything remotely more intricate than "godunit" and two why would you even be participating if you're that freaked?

Why can't you get clarification from your Local Body?

>>18944037
A full blown tactile OBE took me a little over a year to accomplish with daily hour plus yoga sessions.
>>
>>18944046
I'm not part of the body, my father was when he was younger, I haven't been initiated but I'm interested.

I'm just wondering if general. I don't want to get sucked into worshipping lesser gods or performing rituals for lesser beings and offending/slighting the higher cosmic mind.

My pursuit is to attain union with my higher self and to grow closer to the all that is, not some satanic cult that emulates God.

So is Hermeticism/Rosicrucianism the right path for this or nah?
>>
>>18944067
>not some satanic cult that emulates God.
What the hell does that even mean.
What group is your father associated with?
How comfortable are you with the formula of LVX from Hieroglyphic Monad by Dee?
What is a "lesser being" and what constitutes them being lesser?
Why do you assume there is a Singular Cosmic Mind?
What is "higher self"?

I can't answer a thing until you define your terms and clarify your position.

Friend, if you're so easily swayed by loudmouths claiming that everything under the sun is the devil, then you should stay away from the occult altogether. Seeing as the serious works in it require conviction and dedication, you'll likely just be wasting your time and miring yourself in existential doubt. Just go to church and be cool with that..
>>
So, reading Qutub, am I correct in assessing that the intent is to reify the Manifest as Otherness in order to unify with it? Considering that's verbatim what he said.

What isn't he ripping from?
>>
>>18944078
Have you never heard of the link between occultism and satan? That's what I'm trying to get at.

Is occultism a link to God or Satan? I see it as potentially being both, depending on the path. My main question is whether or not this path is one of trickery (into Luciferianism/Satanism) or one of enlightenment into a higher order.

My father was associated with the Rosicrucian Order, not sure exactly which one, he has some material left over, but I have to find it. He's dead now.

I haven't read the Hieroglyphic Monad by Dee

A lesser being is a fraction of the whole/all and not the whole/all itself, thus it could be a higher being than ourselves, but not necessarily one of good will/intention.

By singular Cosmic Mind, I mean the All that Is, the God-head or Great/Divine Mind whence creation/existence stems from.

A higher self is the individuality of a soul, the unconscious mind and the connection to the Cosmic Mind, the unending aspect of the spirit which traverses the many incarnations.
>>

>>
>>18944090
I am not easily swayed, it is merely a question of inquiry to people who know more about the occult than I. I don't have anyone IRL to guide me on such matters, as such I ask you.

I'm already studying it, and as I mentioned earlier, it rings true to my deeper understanding of the universe.

I'm not a church going person, I saw the folly in basic religion at the age of 6.
>>
>>18944106
>Have you never heard of the link between occultism and satan?
No, not at all.
I'm only about thirty and lived through a Satanic panic in which D&D was gambling with your soul.

>Is occultism a link to God or Satan?
see
>>18944090

>A lesser being is a fraction of the whole/all and not the whole/all itself
If that's your definition then everyone around you must be some demon and you should run screaming from anything remotely mystical.

>All that Is, the God-head or Great/Divine Mind whence creation/existence stems from.
The highest Kabbalistic emanation of God is Ain, literally "Nothing". Then Ain Soph. Infinite Nothing, or Nothing Without End. Then Ain Soph Aur, or Infinite Boundless Light.

It's only once we get to Keter, and more honestly Chockmah, that we get any notion of Cosmic Mind.

> higher self is the individuality of a soul
Well you don't need occultism to be a special snowflake, you're already unique just like everyone else.

>the unending aspect of the spirit which traverses the many incarnations.
What gives you the impression that individual survives, or that some thing such as soul even exists?
>>
>>18944132
I define the individual as being separate from the personality. The personality of the being dies with each incarnation, but the lessons and strive towards greater character and spirituality is what passes on to the individuality of the soul and connects to the unconscious/cosmic mind.

If the soul doesn't exist, what's the point of the occult or occult study? Is this not about the transmutation of the soul? Is there not a spiritual plane which manifests all lower planes and forms?

The higher self is the soul.
>>
>>18944184
>If the soul doesn't exist, what's the point of the occult or occult study

The script for the Opening of the Mouth that I wrote for Henre and performed on April 23, the Feast day of Zarabanda.
I used a translation from the walls of the tomb of Rekhmira to compile a condensed version of the ritual that actually took - what, around a month - for a troupe of Egyptian priests to act out day by day in order to open the mouth of a statue of Rekhmira that was going to be placed into his tomb.
I found that the verbiage was super easy to identify, associate, and convert the names of power from Egyptian gods to Mayombe spirits.
Having some knowledge of the Ifa cosmology and mythology helped A LOT.
West Africans and Mayombe in general does not call for an Opening of the Mouth ceremony - but there is the concept of "birthing" and item that also calls for an almost month long process in the diaspora.
Almost a month long at least in some Mayombe texts I've gotten my hands on recently.
So, there are SOME things that are similar that can be associated, even if it's a stretch to pull them together.

But, I wanted to give Henre a little something special that most skulls don't actually get in the Diaspora and that was an official opening of the mouth so he can "see", "here", and "speak" to me for effective communication.
I also wanted to include verbiage in the ritual to bind him to me, and so on.
What good is a familiar spirit if it's not loyal and can't even be a halfway effective spy.
Familiar spirit is probably not the best terminology, but it's the simplest one that popped into my head at the moment.
Sadly, I had to put Henre away in a safe place for the time being.
I can't leave him out where I am at now.
I don't think my dad and step mom could handle opening my bed room door and tripping over a human skull on a copper tray with food offerings.
(They don't know. I don't think they could handle it - psychologically - if I told them what all I get up to.)

So in the previous thread I posted a question concerning one of my past occult workings. (I hope posting the link is okay: http://archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/18925862/#18931357.) Now, I realize that my post - and the related jpg - were a tad too weird for anyone normal to digest, and thus my question must've been nearly impossible for anyone to answer. The thread closed before I got a chance to express how sorry I was for posting such a mess. I should add that my post was not a joke, though. The jpg isn't the easiest thing to read, even though I tried to make it more readable than my notes, and I therefore understand if no one here got what the heck I was on.

Anyway, I wanted to learn whether anyone here had encountered similar teachings by spiritual beings, that this is a simulation.

Tl;dr here's a question to you guys: Has a spiritual being ever said to you that all of this is a simulation, or have you ever asked a spirit whether we are living in one?

Thanks.

The practice is pretty universal among magical practices I think. Even simpler charms often get this treatment, some of my more simple charms take at least four or five days to 'cook' and call spirit to them, but opening of the mouth is definitely a more complex thing.

>I don't think they could handle it - psychologically - if I told them what all I get up to.)
I wear the weird on my sleeve, folks have gotten used to it. It helps if you don't look like a lunatic, dress normally, and talk about normal topics. They quickly realize that it's not terribly different from any other religious or spiritual belief that they don't know about and cease caring.

Which phase state of consciousness is the one where a person learns from the future how to linguistically describe states of consciousness as if they were densities of matter, in the present?

http://prepareforchange.net/2017/03/03/ascending-the-densities-of-consciousness/

Is that the fourth density?

Is this linguistic connection occurring too soon? If not, does anybody require a more specific, mathematical explanation of the similarities between nodes of a consciousness network and atomic coordinates of a substance to accept "consciousness density" into their lexicon of sensible concepts?

Because personally, I am stoked for the types of futures which are described by those who brought that phrase into common vernacular. If from their perspective this is a moment when the idea of consciousness densities becomes commonly apparent, then surely circulating the language is how to align towards the kind of future described by those who have that perspective.

Like most you have submitted to a false understanding of empiricism. Your story points to the core problem, namely that our reality is experiential and our experience is limited as we cannot perceive all things at once. The only thing that can be objectively assessed through empiricism is our own subjective experiencing the world. This inner distance is the human mind's special gift.

I kind of like Max Tegmark, he's a physicist that is super interested in attacking the problem of consciousness without invoking too many philosophical arguments, which I love.

He thinks "the subjective experience of consciousness *is* the way that information feels when being processed in a certain complex way."

In this article anon links, Tegmark describes this consciousness state of matter as "perceptronium," lol.

Max Tegmark also once defined the "hard problem" of consciousness this way - "why does this quark blob have a subjective experience?"
>>
>>18945705
>>18945472

And Tegmark didn't just "rediscover" cartesian dualism, he's trying to physically model consciousness.

Grasping something on a conceptual level and trying to nail down the way it physically interacts with matter are two suuuper different things. You can't use your philosophical understanding of consciousness to construct a benevolent AI, for example, which is part of what Tegmark is after https://futureoflife.org/

I see that no one replied, this is to be expected because I understand that none of us want our core beliefs challenged, but still I think it's fair to suggest that the universe was created only once. Ultimately there can only be one truth, and because of this the entities we all work with and love would no doubt forgive such an expected question from their magician - that whether we are living in a simulated reality or not. I mean who knows if my personal findings are different than everyone else's. Be that as it may, I hadn't given simulation hypothesis a serious thought before the spiritual event I described in my post, and by now I am sitting on hundreds of pages of research. Should I give it a serious thought? I don't know. I am not a scientist or claiming to be one, and it is unlikely that science will discover the driver during our lifetime. But to me it would be even nicer if one of you who practice magic would take the time to evoke an entity and question it about this whole "simulation" thing. (As you communicate with the unseen be aware of your very own thoughts. It is most useful to remember that spirits are not physical, and that they always come so always remember to give the denizens a license to depart.) I'd personally love to read about your results. The young science student is usually discouraged from pursuing studies in spirituality and the occult by atheistic role models like Bill Nye and Neil Degrasse Tyson. The upside to this is that their standards for recording and falsifying data are honed razor sharp; the downside is that through their materialistic tunnel-vision they end up making a lot of "discoveries" that were already common knowledge to anyone who isn't a STEM major.

I tend to read between the lines when someone brings up the dialogue about 'the universe as a simulation'. The assertion is an ontological contradiction, so the research interest is more likely a coverup for an intent to: mine people's comments on the internet and use them to feed a genetic algorithm to generate arbitrary physical models which may include contradictory rule sets.

Ironically, that genetic algorithm is metaphysically equivalent to a tulpa with a whiteboard.

The problem is that physicists do not realize that plasma does not have to be hot. Chemists and biologists picked up on that long ago.

Tegmark did not apply the -ium suffix correctly as it is used in Latin, Arabic, or Kurdish. It denotes atomistic detail. Portmanteau is the surest sign of clickbait.

Good reads. Now for a hypothetical.

Could it be possible to conjure a succubus and have it latch into someone close to you? Usually they manifest in dreams and I recall them being very particular about names. Some years back I attempted to summon my own succubus, could never settle on a name though. Perhaps it backfired? Is it even possible to summon a succubus? I'd also humbly request guidance in my pursuit of esoteric knowledge and power over my personal life, and communion with the essence of existence, as I am but a novice with only surface level studies of various magical systems and religions under my belt. I feel rather lost, unfocused and disconnected from the other side of the veil as of late, and I wish to ask the help of someone who's knowledge and experience I hold deep respect for.
I apologize for breaking the topic of the thread, but this is where I was told to find you.

Someone should have noticed the widespread use of the suffix in chemistry and biology. Physics is lacking these days because so few have good writing or reasoning skills.

If you want to ask in the next thread, I can help you with the dark thing; and he might show you through the library.

I see. So you said Ostara is originally Hebrew, what is her real name?
>>

You are tooo right about writing skills- the abstracts of physics papers are sometimes painful to read. It's a problem in general that academic specialization has this unfortunate side effect of creating scientifically illiterate poets and verbally un-creative scientists

What's everyone's favorite magickal alphabet?

Theban is pretty cool.

The abstracts are not much to blame insofar as the conclusions are typically adversarial. Most physics degrees do not require enough Math courses. Academic specialization has nurtured a culture of plagiarism, where original writing is not valued for creative or quantitative pursuits. The archetypal error in the epistemology of physics is when physicists choose to name a method of applied math after one of their own, instead of keeping the mathematical term.

They would have abated the popsci mistake of confusing the universe with a subset of simulation.

Isn't it Ashtoreth in Hebrew?
>>

Hebrew and Greek, practically, because muh Gematria. Coptic is pretty cool though

I do not use that parsimony, and I caution against it. Ester is more polite, lest you slander mizrahi women by likeness to Ishtar.

Most of the time, when -S- becomes -Sh-, the -Sh- form is derogative.

What's your feeling on Hebrew-derived ciphers such as the Alphabet of Magi, and Passing of the River?
>>
>>18946339
Paracelsus and Agrippa are breddy gud guise.
Passing of the River is cool, I can more or less grok which figure is which Hebrew letter without referring to translation.

Don't know much about Alphabet of Magi, really, other than that it's funky as hell.

Numerology is New Agey af. I would recommend Gematria. A book called Gematria, or you could get The Qabalah of Aleister Crowley, or 777 and Other Qabalistic writings, by Crowley. The last two are compilations (very good stuff btw, but be careful with Sepher Sepheroth) that have Gematria in them, not sure if the first one is even available anymore except maybe in Ape's library

Actually, you can have a lot of fun with numerology - if you only use numbers 1-9.
>>
>>18940408
It depends what you want, what is it that you like about numerology especially Anon?
>>

I have learned my lesson and will take this elsewhere. Keep up the good work lads.

>mfw writers sometimes use "Midsummer" to refer to Beltaine and sometimes Litha

Why is the calendar wheel so confusing?
>>
>>18946761
I think that's a cultural difference. Americans think the summer solstice is the beginning of summer, while British see the solstice as the midpoint of summer.
>>
>>18946779
That's cool but did you know that Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter each have six letters?

And that adds up to a total of 24 letters? That's like two letters per month!
