I think alot of our appetites are molded or even created by society. For example, I have a distinct nostalgic longing for 90s Sci fi. This can't have existed before the 1990s, and can exist once the people who were alive then are gone. It's a temporary appetite, wholly created by my attachment to a time/place/environment.
Also any tips on how to fast? I got a vacation coming up and want to fast for 7 days. I'll have water and vitamins but I've never went more than two so not sure what to expect.

you have to have electrolytes or you will get sick. fasting includes chicken broth or something like that. electrolyte tablets at bare minimum. vitamins do not meet these requirements.

Society actively encourages these exact feelings about food - the ones you're describing - so I don't even know what the fuck you're trying to say. To answer your question, yes, humans have dug into the heart of humanity. Start reading. Get self-aware. Keep paying attention to your relation to things - how it changes - it'll help you a lot. The inner observer is what you want to become. Imagine how everything changes once you can will your own intense happiness, among other things, with nothing being able to interfere.

As much as you make it. It's entirely your choice if you want to fast for seven days to look good. It's your choice if you want to go work out to get in shape. It's your choice if you want to dress well to look sharp.

"Being controlled by society", as you put it, is nothing more than conformity and wanting to fit in with the rest of society. An average person has more freedom now in capitalism that they had in communism or socialism. Now, money equals freedom, and you're not indebted to neither your country or your people. You can sell all your shit and go live a hobo lifestyle. You can move to the countryside and live off the land, it's nobody's business but your own, provided of course you don't make it somebody's business yourself.
