Another interesting fact is, in the Bible, one of the three shepards that visits Jesus when he is born is called "Shepard", but in basque (Don't actually speak it, I moved when I was young).
The reason we went unconquered for so long even tho the peninsula was invaded many times is because we were of no strategic interest to anyone. We were a small, very easily defendable territory with nothing important in the land worth conquering and pacific people. Untill the bombing pf Guernica, no one really gave much of a fuck about us in the world. Also, Spain hate us.

My dad, on the other hand, thought of something called "Zugarramurdi". Apparently it was a town of witches, a lot of strange things happened there and still do. My dad recommends the books of "Pio Baroja", a Spanish author who wrote about a load of Basque legends and myths. Quite easy to read apparently.
On a side note, I know Unamuno is famous in Spain because he wrote an amazing book about him being god and talking his main character.
