So, I unpacked Henre last night and he is beautiful and here just in time for the feast day of Zarabanda today.
So, I am going to ruuuuun around to the Asian grocer and the hobby store and everywhere else and get what I need for opening of the mouth.
I'll send pics when I get my camera back from my sister this AM.
He is ABFAB deviated septum and all.
And he has 0 un-natural cuts what so ever on him.
I'm so pleased that he's intact (minus 1 upper eye tooth and 1 lower pre-molar).
He's so clean (not counting some tooth calculus) and he smells like bone and talcum powder and wood shavings.
Love at first sight is real, y'all.

Red Magick - Egyptian Sorcerer Al-Toukhi

People use various methods and practices to achieve various goals.
>>

>Beneath the Sheltering Oak - Belfazaar Ashantison
Dunno.

>Protection and Reversal Magick - Jason Miller
Dunno, may be sorta decent tho.

>Inner Alchemy - Taylor Ellwood
Dunno.

>Sekhem Heka - Storm Constantine
This particular hot opinion may be unpopular but Storm Constantine actually has a clue about what they're on about but you likely won't get shit out of Storm unless you're some kinda advanced genderqueer.

>Ars Vercanus - Vasilios Wennergren
Meh. Not complete trash. Not really 'good' either.

>Al-Toukhi
Looks like hot garbage.

>The Book of Smokeless Fire - S Ben Qayin
Absolutely hot garbage.

Used to be reading/practicing for years, to no avail.
Continuous failures rendered me completely jaded and made me quit the whole ordeal roughly a year ago.

Still attracted to the idea, can't convince myself to get back to it. Just seems pointless doing something while knowing you'll never succeed.
Nowadays I fully expect myself to never succeed which makes me unable to succeed - a vicious cycle.
Why did I even get to this point? Is it possible to break from it?

It's fucked isn't it?

Ape, what systems are you initiated into again?
>>
>>18926814
>>18926867
Well, I understand there's a certain mystique inherent in the idea, and it's certainly not inconceivable that somebody could be initiated by their grandmother. The issue here, is that magick is a business, and people spin these exaggerated granny stories to give themselves a bit more credibility than their competitors (which leads to their competitors whipping up more extravagant narratives; tragedy of the commons, lol)

My own grandmother (requiescat in pace), from whom I take my middle name, taught me to carry buckeyes for good fortune, and how to use psalms for protection or to bless a home. She was an old appalachian spiritualist, and she may well have been my gateway into witchcraft, but I doubt she ever would have considered herself a witch, and I have too much respect for her to turn her into a granny story. :T

Way back in ancient days when men hunted and women farmed/foraged, when a problem occurred with the farm the women would get together and praise the earth mother for help. As time went on men started participating in it. More time passed and people thought of improving upon the idea, adding offensive and defensive spells as if its some tool that anyone can use. Now we have stuff like Harry Potter to make people think it is real. Dip shits like to play pretend that they are a wizard and they come up with spells and shit. Sphenctum Penetratus!

>>
>>18927541
Hmmm how about scrying. Do you scry? If so, what do you use?
>>
>>18927575
I do scry. I typically use clear crystal quartz, black mirror, and the good ol' closed eyes method.
>>
>>18927581
Ah ok. I have been using a glass mirror but find it inadequate. I'm hoping to get an obsidian mirror, but everything on amazon looks very small or very blemished. Personally I have had the most success in 'trances' with eyes open and closed, than I have with mirrors. I also use Tarot for divination and ritual work.
>>
>>18927587
>trance/altered states = best states

>everything on amazon
Yeah, I'd make it yourself.
>>
>>18927587
Get a bowl, fill it with water, maybe add some ink. A nice burgundy also works.
>>
>>18927612
I'm pretty sure I'd fuck it up[ worse than whoever makes the Amazon ones... it takes an incredible amount of craftsmanship to make a mirror out of a hunk of obsidian, an art i'm not familiar with at this point. I was thinking of maybe getting an obsidian bowl and filling it with water. I talked to an anon in the /div/ thread that uses water with great success. I have a crystal ball too but it's blemished as shit and not good for anything beyond display really.
>>
>>18927636
Hydromancy is another great method.

>>18927639
I have faith you Anon.
>>
>>18927664
Isn't hydromancy more of interpreting the water itself than actually scrying? Or am I off here?
>>
>>18927681
The word simply means - prophecy by water. Same could be said for crystal-gazing - as a form of geomancy. But it's important to note that you're using this medium to scry.

It's kinda like
>all cacti are plants; but not all plants are cacti

There are other forms of hydromancy and other ways to divine by it.

>>18927719

Thoughts on Daniel Schulke's poison path (Venificium, Viridiarium Umbris)? How different is it from regular sabbatic witchcraft? Is it an advanced tradition?

On that note, is the Psalter of Cain a good general intro to Traditional Witchcraft after reading the Cultus Sabbati essay?

Lastly seeing as Kenneth Grant is seen as an influence to Xoanon, what is the general consensus on his work concerning the Typhonian current?

15 minutes till the end of the day, and we just wrapped it up.
Henre has had his official Opening of the Mouth and he is now sitting on his wax Firma.
I don't have the cauldron here at my dad's and I'm gonna have a heck of a time figuring out how to store this but it was completely and totally worth it.
>>
>>18929384
>Shulke
I know he's more folk (low) than ceremonial/high (sabbatic) - when it comes to the craft. I haven't read his works yet, however.

>Psalter of Cain
I'm currently mulling through the Chumbley folder - I'd say "yes". Children of Cain by Howard is another good general starter

>Kenneth Grant
>general consensus on his work concerning the Typhonian current?
From what I've heard, it's gone a little more "Chaos magick level"
>muh aliens
>muh Cthulhu
and has become less organized/structured.

I could be wrong on all accounts, however, I'm very much a noob
>>
>>18929441
What's Opening of the Mouth about? What type of rocks are those?
>>
>>18929501
Not PaloChan, but the "Opening of the Mouth" is funerary magick - it allows the deceased to breathe, eat, and communicate (if I'm not mistaken).

Not sure on the stones...
>>
>>18929501
Correct below... funerary magick.
I am empowering the spirit of my Nganga with the ability to intelligently communicate with me.
I have opened his "eyes" and his "mouth".
He can now "see" and tell me what he sees.
In this ritual I used Black Rock Salt, Pink Himalayan Rock Salt, Black Pepper, Camphor, Rosemary, Sage, Bay Laurel leaves, Lebanese Rose Water, Gangejal, Mint, Lemon, Ginger, Cucumber, a hammered copper plate, raw beeswax, a dried severed Bull penis (not even kidding), Nag Champa, Sandalwood & Myrrh.
On the paper towel is a food offering of Grapes, Roasted Pork, and Butternut Squash.

Glad to see you Palo.

Hey Ape, I was reading some back editions of /omg/ and /div/ and you keep refering to "waylandry". What exactly is that? I preums youre talking about some sort of cleromantic "casting" but Im interested to hear more.

Also you said you were interested in some of the african tribal supportive divinatory techniques, and that's kind of my bag... Ive studied basket divination, Hakata, sangoma and a bunch of other random stuff like friction divination and other weird stuff, is there anything I can help with?

addendum:
"working in MY metaphysical shop is shit"

I'm sure there's some great one's. I don't work in one of those. In a general sense though, the materialism and profit mindset gets in the way of what I want to be doing with it, and at the risk of sounding really arrogant I'm tired of being the only one on staff who really knows anything about the subject beyond rudimentary candle magic and collecting crystals.
>>

>Do you have sources to point to?
Mostly just stuff on hakata/diatola but even that is kind of slim, these systems arent widely distributed. There's a few things in apes library that discuss stuff but you've got to actually sit down and read through them to find the one or two passages they contain.

>how to into Ifa?
uhh yeah, go to the canary islands or west africa or whatever depending on which canon you want to learn, and find a way to get indoctrinated as a babalawo/priest.

Ifa is a pretty defended tradition, something like Diloggun (which is related), and is only really taught to other initiates. You COULD learn something probably, but Id be wary of the veracity of the information if you arent in a third world country while you're learning it.

If you mean Hakata:

"The translation of Southern African sangoma divination towards a global format, and the validity of the knowledge it produces"
and
"REGIONAL AND HISTORICAL CONNECTIONS OF FOUR-TABLET DIVINATION IN SOUTHERN AFRICA"
and
"Four-tablet divination as transregional medical technology in southern africa"

all by Wim van Binsbergen

"Revelation and Divination In Ndembu Ritual"
by Victor Turner

"African Divination Systems - Ways of Knowing" (in the library)

"The Nganga of Mashonaland" part IV by Michael Gelfand

You can also check out
"throwing the bones" by Michelle Yronwode which contains a short but interesting section on hakata, but be forwarned that it is misleading and should be taken with a grain of salt and lots of other reading. She clearly took much of her knowledge directly from van Binsbergen.

also just as a follow up, all african systems, Ifa, Sangoma, Diatola, all of it, is pretty spirit-led and deals either directly with the orisha or ancestors.
If Ancestral veneration or dedication to specific deities in line with your divination is not something you do... these systems efficacy may not be all there for you. This is not the touchy feely "intuitive" and "subjective", jungian archetype stuff of modern tarot.

This is rolling around in the dirt with skulls and animal bones, ancestor and spirit communication stuff. If that doesnt float your boat, it may not feel right.

Well, I've been lead to /x/ by my interests and searching, I've been lead to the occult (here), and the more I read/learn - the more I want to incorporate it into my life. I feel like I have been lead by the spirits - wherever they take me next is a mystery.

But I feel like I'm beginning a great journey, probably much like the Fool.
>>
>>18929909
good then you're in a sort of right mindset. I would familiarize yourself with ancestral veneration practices and general "shamanic" stuff before you get into any afro-carribean or afro-cuban techniques.

The complex imagery and symbolism in tarot lends itself well as an atheistic, interpretive information system. Four cowrie shells, a handfull of bones, or a couple carved bits of wood do not, you need to rely on communication with spirit(s).

Chances are in a third world country and you're a foreigner you're going to fall prey to con artists selling bullshit. There's a whole subculture of people that make money by just looking legit and fleecing people coming to look for this. So saying that you went to a 3rd world country is a pretty shitty form of street cred. There are strains all over the place. The best thing to do is hang around a group if you can so you can see the fruits of its community.

Skulls are a multi-use and multivalent too.

It was the main telismatic focus of the Kapalika, and is the focus of Aghori.

In Vajrayana it's used as a container. In Uttara Kaula Trika it's used as a substitute for the blessing shell and also as the base root of the mandala (since you can do the lowest level of puja on a skull).

In the Cultus Sabbati, it's a higher hypostate of the Dragon Vessel:

Know this, O' Beloved of the Antient One, the Secret of Our especial covenant:-
to none but the Hidden of the Dragon's Brood is the Power of the Flame passed on
straightwise from the Crooked One's Heart.

For as the Dragon's Flame wast first cast into the Seven-earth 'd Flesh of the Ancestor,
Witch-Father and Witch-Mother, so the Flesh became the Mirror of the Seven-starr'd
Void; and as the skull of the Elder became the first vessel in the hands of the Child,-
so the Vessel held in the hands of today is the skull of the Child and of All in whom the
Serpent hath made its lair.

For in the Vessel of Our Making and Our Taking are we
wed to the Dragons Flame, therein the Ashen Flesh of Our Ancestry,
therein the Seven-earth'd Flesh of That which we shall become.
We behold and revere the Vessel before us as the Shrine of the Flame:
a Sign of recognition betwixt all who celebrate these mysteries, as a Sign of Our
Birth - place and Our Burial-ground, and as a Sign of Our Great Return.

It's an air sign. The "aqua" is in there because it's the "water bearer." Air is the medium, water is flowing through it. It might be easier to think about the "air" as space. Crowley certainly associated it with space, which is why he equates it (via the Star tarot card) with Nuit in the BoT.

>Pretty sure Eschelman and Jerry C. take this view.

Scorpio has always been firey in that the scorpion/poison situation is hot and burning in character. Their character has presumably shifted from ptolemy's day, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they've just shifted around one full notch on the wheel.

But on the other hand, that kind of makes sense what with the precession of the zodiac...it would put Aquarius as the new 12th sign, which extra makes sense to me. I just don't think it means that Aquarius is now suddenly occupying the elemental characteristic space that pisces formerly occupied (water), as the previous 12th space on the wheel.

Sup Ape,
I'm from /his/

I sorta wanted to talk about one of my dmt trips, since you mentioned you saw a grey. I did too. But I think it was just the entities way of fucking with me, since I just came back from an insane breakthrough.. Since then they've just been circlejerking with me and tried to make me believe that I could communicate with aliens..

I've read on montalk.net that they're slow at adapting to your adaptions, since they've, the entities, had a hard time adapting to me adapting to them.. Probably because their existence arises from the fourth dimensional plane and I agree.

the entities threatened to kill me as well, for getting high, which made me freeze a bit.

I commend you on being badass enough to just tell them to go fuck off in such a situation.

Another dmt trip I met with this entity - who have no attachment to the entities I have telepathic communication with (they call it demonic contact connection)

this entity showed me a book, which I interpreted as the bible. But the book was riddled with maggots, essentially just a corpse.. Should I continue to interpret this as the bible or does it go for everything written being dead at the core? Like I could only find secrets to the universe by tripping and meditating.

Could the grey you saw possibly be entities trying to fuck with you?

I kind of like having these entities around.. I think it'll make me more badass
>>
>>18931803
holy shit it just dawned on me
The entities are telling me to wait,, just to sit tight and wait..

I don't think these entities are evil.. just a bit more hardcore than I am..

No you're absolutely correct.
It gets better.
There are four quarter gods.
Each quarter represents an Equinox or Solstice.
Each Guardian is elemental (fire, water, earth, plus "music" or air).
>>
>>18932124
>"music" or air

I love how this is the second time today the concept that "air" is an element that's sort of spiritually interchangeable with whatever thing is flowing through it (in this case music, in the earlier part of the thread, it was water >>18931132 )
>>
>>18932124
Like it's crazy interesting that there's not a concept for the medium itself in their system - its existence is represented by the most important thing flowing through it, which I guess is music

Ape I noticed that you're attempting to reconstruct the DBoE practice of building the "body of Shadow" in preparation for the eclipse. What exactly differentiates the "Body of Shadow" from the "Body of Light" and what planes does it interact with?
>>
>>18932510
It interacts with ours for the purposes of assault sorcery and just about in any path or sphere below the Abyss.

Body of Light is 'built' or 'imagined'. Body of Shadow is 'loosened' or 'shed' by open eye contemplation on your actual shadow.

The practices in DBoE give a very "drunken" feeling; working the method makes you feel like you're going to nod out where Body of Light practices tend to sharpen my concentration rather than subsume it.
>>
>>18932511
>open eye contemplation of your shadow

Is this a part of the General rites in DBoE? Where can I find that in Chumbley's texts?

Also what practices do you use to build your "Body of Light?"
>>
Isn't practicing magic supposed to damn you to some agonizing existence forever after you die?
How is any of this worth it?

>>
>>18932546
>Is this a part of the General rites in DBoE?
Yes, go to the end of the ritual year praxes *before* it starts doing into like appendant contemplations and instructions (Hallowing, rosaries, etc.).

In a Thelemic context it would be akin to a godform assumption only you're assuming an idealized iteration of self.

Shamen do that shit without a safety net for fun. It might not even be impressive to them. Or Crooked Path is the deepest of deep cuts, who knows.

I'm more interested in running it to see how far it can be stripped down to shoehorn into the framework of western zen. Would it work as a vaguely occult, mostly contemplative practice with a focus on aesthetic minimalism? Just you, a cushion, and a cockshaped rock for playing with stellar fire.

Equating monotheism with Kether is a bit of an oversimplification. I'm sure Christians, Muslims, and Jews would like to think they worship Kether, but the abrahamic "God" (Allah, Yahweh, etc.) is Yesod by most qabbalistic interpretations.

Okay, here goes.

First, I'm not really coming down on you that hard.
I don't think.
Im being more ambivalent I think with my comments.
So, I just think your description is a little over the top.
I'm sure that maaaybe you had an experience that connected some odd dots for you in your head during the deeply introspective sequence of head trips you got stuck in.
But, honestly... and maybe I'm over stepping my limit here....
I think you just did too much of whatever it was that you were doing then... ahem
I've been there when I was younger - so I'm not preaching abstinence from all mind altering substances.
But, there gets to a point where you've done so much that you start shorting out brain cells and then these weird brain zaps and space outs DON"T go away.
They get to be permanent and you can't get away from them.
I'm there, okay, and I've been clean for 12 years and my thinking is still not normal or rational.
I'm always a little bit off now.
I just don't talk about it a lot because it's just who I am and it's not some big deal thing.
Honestly, what you're describing to me sounds like a substance psychosis.
And, I only say that because I've been there and I know what it feels like and I can empathize with you.
Hell, I've had all kinda of spiritual experiences on all kinds of different things.
I've connected all kinds of crazy networks up in my noggin that make no sense to anyone but me.
I just feel like maybe you need a little different perspective.
First, you don't just "magickally" see something like that and it last 5 days.
You were either in a manic or hypomanic states during this... or on too much bathtub demon speed.
Don't get mad, or get your feelings hurt.
I guess what I'm trying to say is... I feel like it sounds like you need to take a break and let your brain and your body detox for a little bit.
Drink a lot of water, a LOT of water.

100% accurate. This is almost always a concern when looking into this kind of thing, and traveling to a third world country isnt even required, happens in developed nations a lot too.

My point in the statement wasnt that everyone in a third world country could be trusted for their knowledge, it was that it's one of the only places you're going to find genuine initiation into certain practices, Ifa being one.

I'm just gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and presume you are a well meaning person who didn't quite fully bake their thought before ripping it out of the oven and smashing it on the table like they were proud of it.

First of all, I agree that we should all practice the magic which originates in the locale that has never known hunger, poverty, war or conflict. Get back to me when you find fucking shangri-la and well start studying.

Second, there are many reasons to know many different kinds of facts and methods, learning is fun, history is fun, science is fun. If you are having issues with these concepts, I think you might be in the wrong thread.

Third, the understanding of similar or related techniques to those you are most interested in can be helpful in understanding the underlying cosmologies and philosophical foundations they are based on.

For all these reasons and more, we tend to study many different fields and backgrounds of magic, divination and philosophy.

>>
>>18934696
Occultism is kinda an idiosyncratic way to get a gf. Even if you get one there's a chance you won't like the feeling of being indebted to the universe when being with her. Instead you could always try normie magick and hit the gym, buy new clothes, surround yourself with cool friends, and take up a hobby an attractive person would have. That would make more sense than using mind power to get your sweetheart. ..Of course unless seeing magick at work is more interesting to you than some bimbo it might bring.
>>
>>18934696
In my experience magick tends to work with the path of least resistance and often goes a completely different way to achieve the end than you had planned. So, yes, it could, but she isn't going to just pop out of the sky and be everything you ever wanted. Magick will likely produce a "change within you" and "realign the universe" so to speak such that you get what you wanted. Just be careful what you wish for...

Don't listen to the others. It's perfectly fine to print books at copyshops so long as you just say you need to print some long documents, not specifying that they are STOLEN and ILLEGAL! Best to say you're a university student and need these for some thesis of yours and to not print all at once but print one, read it, come back for the next one, read it and so on. Also, print some scientific articles too, you'll need them anyway if you want to get a grasp of the world.

Just to elaborate on my post in case it seemed that I wasn't telling the truth: I definitely am *not* lying. What would one gain from lying on an anonymous board anyway?

Granted, what I posted may be a high-powered experience which is why I wonder about it "publicly". I even left out some details that are pretty out there, such as seeing a ghostly floating face overlaying my sight during the whole time. (The ghostly face floated kind of far away, and it wasn't of any color, like it was grey, and I saw it best whenever I closed my eyes. The floating face was animated, repeating a ten secondish long gesture of taking off its glasses and breathing grey mist towards me. In another one of its gestures the floating face looked like it was wiping sweat of its temple. It's very hard to describe the ghostly face perfectly, but it did remind me of how Dalai Lama looks.) I should add that the whole week-long trance, or possession if you may, was littered with Buddhist symbolism. I was briefly into Buddhism at the time -- hence the Vajra Guru mantra -- but I definitely am not a Buddhist. Neither am I a drug user, unless you count the occasional spliff which doesn't do any more to me than a pint. The trance lasted for one week and then the floating face disappeared and the visions were over.

Guess you could say that it was an evocation gone awry. But I did at least learn some stuff, although one of the teachings was that everything said by paranormal should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm not sure what to think.

I'll post this in whatever new thread as well but, Ape or anyone else - I'm a relative newcomer; I've done a fair bit of "basic" work (sigils and such) as well as some ritualistic works (Angel work) with success. I've never done any Solomon work or goetic work ect. I've heard that the Ars Notoria would help with my memory and cognition. Any one recommend this?
>>
>>18936353
Yeah someone requested it.

>>18936358
Not really.

>>18936386
Yes. Wikipedia: The Art of Memory.

Wait...So you induced a week long trance using Enochian?
>>
>>18936496
No, the evocation ritual didn't involve Enochian. If it matters, at that time I had with me the angel's sigil and crystal ball inside the circle, (and no triangle outside the circle). The circle was drawn on cloth. The evocation was a typical GD-style solo evocation w/ a solomonic conjuration.

Has anyone here worked with the Black Pullet, if so, how potent is it? Do the magical talismans and rings work as advertised?
>>
>>18932562
Considering Jesus practiced magic in the bible I don't think so.
>>
>>18932562
According to some people, yes. But also according to some people, the earth is the flat center of our solar system...so, y'know...take it with a 'couple pounds of salt.' as the saying goes

Timestamp of circle and crystal ball. If memory serves, I wore the copper pentagram around my neck during the evocation, and those were the tools (aside a linen robe) and there weren't any other tools.

YOUUUUU you have one of those painted silk floor cloths.

Damn you!
Damn you and your extra care taken to have nice props.

>>18937055
What about the skulls buried in the cemetery? Do their spirits lay in their coffin and roam around occasionally?
>>
>>18936097
Oooh nice, I just arrived at home. Thanks Ape.

My order for a paper copy of Calcidius on Demons got through as well. I found it for $60.28, shipped to Brazil, on Abebooks. The other copy that is there is being sold for $140 (+$32 S&H). I had to snatch the cheap one when I saw it.
>>
>>18937094
Wouldn't it be nicer if it were embroidered though?

>>18937083
Cool pentagram, did you make it yourself?

What's that about?

Me again. I'd like to share an anecdote.

First I tried to buy this book, a commented version of Kirk's Secret Commonwealth, from Abebooks, but no dice.

Then I found it at Amazon UK.
>fays book

That made my day.

"A scholarly translation of the treatise on demonology by Calcidius, an important figure in the Neoplatonic philosophical movement of Roman times. Some background in philosophy required."

Get it from the library. It's in
solomon/Neo Platonism/CALCIDIUS ON DEMONS (COMMENTARIUS CH. 127-136).pdf

In high school I had a pentagram necklace made out of a quarter. My town is known for having a lot of artisans, and I had it custom made. F***, I could kick myself for losing that.
