Because they're a FRATERNAL organization. There are some lodges and groups that accept women but they're not usually in amity with the mainstream ones.

Some types of Freemasonry accept women. Women Lodges isn't very popular, but existe.

Yes, it is a male fraternity, but the women or wives of themen are allowed in, but they are not allowed at the meetings. They also do not allow in dikes or any other type of female that recognizes as a male. Only one way a woman is allowed and that is if you are a wife of a member. Just like the Knights of Columbus.
