Basically my experience is that spirits are all over the place and that they really can "cheat" but only when it's necessary. How they choose what miracles to perform and when to manipulate our thoughts/emotions/environment appears to be dependent on information that is beyond human comprehension. I like to see it as though they have an alien vantage point and that they are building us up towards fulfillment. It sounds crazy as hell though so I'd understand if you disagree, I just thought the op could use some anecdotes to help form an opinion.
