Himmler was very into the occult, along with the entire SS. It was an ancient pagan symbol used by sun worshipers, it was said that there was a sun before ours, about 300,000 years ago, and the black sun and the current sun battled for supremacy, and that our current sun won.

The Black Sun was invoked in many "rituals" that the SS preformed, such as blood pacts and other esoteric/occult rituals. It was also placed on the floor of the SS headquarters (if I remember that right, pic related).

I don't know too much about it though, this is just basic knowledge, an ancient pagan symbol used by Himmler and SS. The Lightning and the Sun by Savitri Devi, an Esoteric Hitlerist, as well as the works of Miguel Serrano, more notably NOS Book of the Resurrection talk more about, I would recommend reading those books, Esoteric Hitlerism is fascinating.

I was just a young boy, looking up at the night sky. It must have been dark, and without cloud cover. In a corner of the sky I saw it, some sort of shape, a circle or sphere of some kind, darker than the surrounding sky. Hell, i'm not even sure I 'saw' it as much as I 'sensed' it somehow. After all it was too dark to see it clearly. But it was there, a 3rd celestial body in the sky, independent of our sun or moon.
I believe this is what is referred to as the 'black sun'.
I've never seen, or even looked for it since.
