Because every religion needs a devil and Roko's Basilisk is Yudkowsky's faith's Satan figure. If he behaves all coy and like he cares a lot, then it all becomes spooky and mysterious, which is always necessary to have a successful demonic figure in your religion.
Just see all that Satan has done for Christianity, without the Enemy archetype no one would care enough to become a Christian, accordingly Christian leaders act like nobody should ever talk about Satan, because if people do they slowly take away its power and consequently Christianity's power.

That link will explain this much better than anyone here can. Basically, if you aren't a member of Eliezer Yudkowsky's cult, you have nothing to worry about. The whole thing seems silly. But, due to Yudkowsky and his followers' singular way of thinking, it scares the living shit out of them.
