Kenneth Grant's Typhonian Trilogies are the best I've found in the western occult tradition--start with the first book, The Magickal Revival, which is a powerful and insightful exegesis on the works of several prominent practitioners including Crowley, Spare, and Fortune. I imagine they are hard to follow if you're not well educated and already a practitioner, as he rejects the principle of non-contradiction in logic, drops a lot of names, and uses a fair amount of ancient Greek. I view it as a waste of time to read texts obviously written by those who have not crossed the abyss, and Grant very clearly demonstrates an understanding only one who has done so could possess.
