A show called monsterquest obtained footage of what appears to be a really, really fucking enormous tentacled creature.

https://youtu.be/BkQ-xbD5uwI?t=39m10s

Why cant I find any other page or official outlet which cites this stuff? Surely its real footage? Sure its foggy but no shit, and you can certainly tell it IS there, so why has it been swept under the carpet?
>>
>>18858552
Pretty interesting. Probabaly a giant or colossal squid but even so, those are pretty fucking cool on their own.
>>
>>18858552
>annoying latin science names
I hope that nigga gets eaten by that octopus.
>>
>>18858635
That loud yank yelling "WOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" is worse
>>
>>18858606
it's either 60 or 100 feet long, wtf i love squids now
>>
>>18858552
There's some big shit in the ocean.
>>

>there's video of a squid
>no way to determine scale

Good job, faggots
>>
>>18859180
did you even watch the video?
>>
>>18858552
I believe it. Of all the places we as humans have explored the ocean is the biggest mystery of all.
>>
>>18859447
I take that back. Space is the most mysterious of the places with the ocean coming in second.
>>
>>18858552
its some sort of large algae that looks like a squid because of the camera angle. those scientists are retards

Natural enemy of a giant squid is the sperm whale. The sperm whale max. diving depth to hunt squid is 3000 meter (1.8 miles)
There is basically no reason for a giant squid to show so far on the surface. More evidence is that picture of squid arms that some whale bite of.

I read that Squid are just as intelligent as the Octopus (which is frighteningly intelligent), but their body layout doesn't exactly facilitate them exploring their surroundings or learning anything. They've got bright and intelligent minds inside these weaponized, survival focused bodies.
>>
>>18860058
their anatomy limits their intelligence;

octopi have segmented brains, with one "hemisphere" (ganglion?) assigned to each arm

squids have a similar layout, but with a ring-shaped brain inside the mantle where the arms join the body, to where their mouth is "through" the hole in their brain which causes their brain to get squished if they eat something too large
>>
>>18859893
Its a shame that the only live footage we have of these are ones which have come to shallow waters, and are basically just about dead and have come up to die. This ones probably even a juvenile
>>
>>18859910
no, i'd think 60-100 ft is a bit crazy, but that thing had to be at least 30 or 40, it's huge
>>
>>18859877
>that eye reflecting light
>>
>>18859830
because you know im right
>>
>>18861148
The eyes aren't reflecting light, you're looking at bioluminescent tentacles flashing.

figuring out the scale when you have what appears to be an eye reflection and the base of the arms is possible though. By doing exactly what they said, comparing it to known squid anatomy and dimensions.

Depends on the object. Their camouflage seems to work on contrast rather than "actual" color.

>octopi
It's octopodes.
>>
>>18865621
Octopi is technically incorrect, but colloquially so common it has evolved the language into an acceptable term. The correct term is octopuses. Octopodes is ancient Greek, not English.

http://grammarist.com/usage/octopi-octopuses/
>Octopi, the supposed plural of octopus, is a favorite among fans of quirky words, but it has no etymological basis. The form was created by English speakers out of a mistaken belief that octopus is Latin and hence pluralized with an -i ending. But octopus comes from ancient Greek, where its plural is octopodes, and though it came to English via scientific Latin—one of the late varieties of Latin that kept the language alive long after it had died out as a first language—it was never a native Latin word and didn’t exist in that language until scientists borrowed it from Greek in the 18th century (and if it were a Latin word, it would take a different form and would not be pluralized with the -i ending).

>All of that is beside the point, though, as octopus has been in English for centuries and is now an English word when English speakers use it, so there is no reason not to pluralize it in the English manner. Granted, some Latin and Greek plurals survive in English by convention, but octopi/octopodes is not one of them. Octopuses is far more common than octopi in edited writing of all kinds, including scientific writing.

>Still, while the use of octopi can’t be justified on an etymological basis, it is not wrong. It is old enough and common enough to be considered an accepted variant.
>>
>>18863636
What a dick, just throwing around a super chill octopus like that.
>>
>>18865481
cool.

Kill yourself faggot
>>
>>18858552
I was ironically fan of the show (kind of a guilty pleasure) and this one was literally the only thing they found on 4 seasons
>>
>>18858552
I dont think it was swept under the carpet, its just that we already know massive squid excist so it's really not exciting
>>
>>18866586
I loved this show too, have the first season on DVD. I actually met a forensics analyst who appeared on the show, and he was less than enthusiastic about it
>>
>>18860058
The eyes at least always seem to convey Intelligence.

>>
>>18866606
Yeah but this footage isnt cited anywhere, in any of the articles which show the same old footage of that newzealand one over and over again. Plus those few new ones from japan. But those squid specimens werent really that large either
