Not exactly, but close.

Is it new? Yes!

Does it involve actual ancient dieties? Yes!

Are their attributes and origins heavy modified in order to fit the narrow agenda of the movement? 100X yes...

Just my, not as humble as I would like, opinion...
>>
>>18837003
While I don't care for Wicca, I keep seeing stuff about it being a bunch of fat lesbians...which may be true generally, but the ones I knew when I was younger were generally pretty attractive and not fat. Must be a regional curiosity.

Yes

>>18837043
I'd say it's arguable if they even existed. Evidence for Cernunos is sketchy at best and could be a reductionist way of describing many local forest dieties

Yeah. Meme magic far surpasses the watered down cuckmagic of wiccan.

From what I can tell, the male figure is reminiscent of Nanna/Sin. The female form is almost certainly represented by Inanna/Ishtar.

Based on pure speculation of course.

I know the guy who thought wicca up took influence from all over the place, so you may be right. From what I understand, wicca reduces old European Pagan (capital P) cosmology into a dominant lunar feminine goddess and a subservient male god, associated with nature or woodlands like Pan or Cernunos. Though there could certainly be Mesopotamian influence too.

The whole feminine goddess rules everything is why it's popular with the tumblr types, and the whole "witchcraft and pentagrams" thing makes it appealing to the emo teenager types.

It's funny, because there's pretty mich no mention of witchcraft in ANY old European polytheistic religion, it was just a middle ages-way to slander the old beliefs. The closest you have is Norse seior (not sure on spelling) but that was nothing like whatever wiccans believe

Scrapbooking for edgy soccer moms and failed men.
>>
>>18837135
I mean, they might not use the word witchcraft, but it was definitely more than slandering anyone's beliefs. Chumbley has managed to revive a lot of that stuff...not that he has a lineage or anything, but it's based in fact and reality, which is hard to say about Wicca.

Of course not, because it was our religion. I still remember a handful of old chants for things like upper respiratory infections and bad luck.

Or singing old hymns while gathering mushrooms in the forest with my grandma.

Despite this we still went to church and wore crucifixes all while telling stories of heroic giants defending our motherland.

I believe some of the old beliefs are still present in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany to a lesser degree.

But you are right in saying that it never really died out in Slavic culture. It is currently seeing a fairly strong revival with the "nativist" movement.

And who can blame them?

I mean whats not to like about father frost and his daughter? Or primordial giants that will take on endless hordes of demons and monsters in order to defend the weak and innocent?

If only some of that chivalry could find it's way into the people running the country...

It never really died out in Iceland, either, or parts of Great Britain. Those were among the last regions of Europe to fall to Christianity.

Mainland Europe is pretty cucked though.
>>
Wiccan is just a bastardized conglomeration of "cool" and "edgy" religions made by hippies in the 60's. It's another silly new age "belief" for people with no confidence.
>>
>>18836957

I'm tempted to dismiss it as new-age fluff.

But, I suspect the Wiccan path is rife with power, judging by how hard it triggers the right-wing weenies in this thread.

More proof that it's a SJW religion then.

Didn't you all try to curse Donald J. Trump, the president of the United States of America? Or as weak-willed people that think he's Voldemort have to say, 45.

Nope lol. It's literally a "religion" adopted by sjw "gurls". Like, that's a religion that only has one option politically.

There are no libertarians on /x/. They're all too busy building roads.
>>
>>18836957
Yes. They literally refer to themselves as pagan, a slur term used to discredit all non christian religions.
I assume that adopted this meme as a way to cope with the burning hole left in us when the jews stole from us our native spiritual bonds.

I always imagined "pagan" was being used for a bit of ironic flair, sort of like how black people call each other the N word.

This could very well be the result of their Goddess being disgusted with the values they espouse and attribute to her worship?

Or perhaps it is because they routinely associate and combine the Goddess with her oldest and most hated enemies?

>full of cringey adherents.

They are not doing the Goddess any favors in the public image department either.

Not even likely to have been a forest deity. Here's a pretty good reassessment of Cernunnos from the author of "Deep Ancestors".

>>
>>18837135

Of course it wasn't. Even though seidr was associated with the Vanir and the names of the two main Vanir deities - Freyr and Freyja - aren't names at all, but are titles that mean, literally, "Lord" and "Lady".
>>
>>18840981
All wiccans are objectively either fat emo bitches or incredibly attractive thots, there is no in-between and there is no male Wiccans. These are facts.

So is the Old English word. It actually means a male sorcerer, wicce being the feminine form.

The very first Wiccan I ever met was a male. He was also fat and virtually a basement dweller.

So, sorry Anon, take your obvious misogyny and go.
>>
Let's try something new.

If your opinion of Wicca/Wiccans is overall negative, post what your occult practice and/or religious worldview is. If these may be described fairly succinctly (i.e. Thelema, Hermeticism, Heathenry, Christianity, etc.) please do so rather than explain in detail what you believe.

>>18836957
>describing things as snowflake
You've got some personal things to work out before judging those around you, is what this says.

To answer your question though, yes. That is, in short. It draws from some very old and very powerful ideas, though. To practice it as "wicca" is to really miss out on the nuance of the wisdom this mask hides. To make things a little clearer, it's not Wicca alone that bellies these real magics. Wicca is just a more digestible adaptation of some important ideas. Take from this what you will. If nothing else, know that there is no one right belief system because all beliefs draw from different perspectives and ideas on different phenomena. You will never know it all, but you will know especially little if you devote yourself to only one line of thought.
