What was going in America during the late 40s until about the 90s? This was the time when paranormal occurrences really started to pop up everywhere: Tons of saucer sightings, men in black, MKULTRA, the satanic ritual abuse panic. So what gave rise to these strange happenings /x/?

There's weird things happening all the time but strangely the explanation for it always seem to coincide with the current state of human knowledge.

It wasn't aliens, though, it was tissue sample collection for Project Gasbuggy.
Bill Cooper eventually figured it out, and paid the ultimate price for it, like he wanted to.
After World War 2 ended everyone got bored so they started making up spooky ghost sightings to entertain themselves.

IDK why not look for a couple USAF generals in some convos with a rockstar...
Do you guys think everything freaky that happened in that period was connected somehow? Men in black, cattle mutilations, the rise of cults and reports of Satan worshipers, there's gotta be a connecting link between all of these happenings. Then again it was probably just the government prolonging MKULTRA or another secret program.

It was the turn of the century OP, America's economy was skyrocketed due to increased industry from wartime economy and the fact that half the developed world was now rubble and had to start from scratch leaving America with a large centralized ever growing economy.
The innovations in technology brought people and culture; lore, stories, legends etc. into the spotlight, the entertainment industry was taking off as well at that time. More people were connected and able to share experiences and stories. Hollywood horror movies also helped spark genuine interest into the unknown and paranormal. There wasn't really any strange anomaly as you're suggesting which led to the frequent occurrences of these strange happenings, it had more to do with a massive cultural shift and globalization.

I feel like I should also clarify that I'm not saying that hollywood sparked the frequency of paranormal incidents after the turn of the century but rather the cultural shift led on by the entertainment industry and economic globalization as well allowed more people to learn and be aware of the paranormal, hence more sightings, more happenings, more documented reports of the paranormal.

Makes sense when you consider the demonic nature of some extraterrestrials.

It started before that. Jack Parson's babalon working really kicked things into gear in the mid 30's.

Interesting take on it anon, so you don't believe that people were actually having paranormal experiences?
>>18829239
Didn't he try to conceive a "moonchild" or something along with L. Ron Hubbard?
>>18829353
Thats right. Some think the babalon working ushered in the roswell era by opening some kind of rift or portal. Apparently, the rumours go, some kind of moonchild or homonculous was created which involved the placing of a fetus in an enclosed lead capsule at the site of the los alamos bomb test.
I feel as though it was the rise in the ever changing and ever growing forms of media that we also experienced during those times. We went from the written word to instant live video in what really amounts to just a few decades. This would explain why a story about ufo's say in 1940 took time culminate via the news papers and radio. Flash forward to modern times and we demand proof via technology, And sometimes even then we do not believe what we see.
