Aye, what the fuck happened to the thalassophobia threads? Shit used to be fun as fuck to read in the early morning hours. Where'd they go? I haven't seem any of them for a while now.

Anybody got any scary ocean stories to share?

Nothing's happened to me, but I've had this bookmarked for a while:

I think they kinda died down for a while because it's usually just the same pics and stuff. Not that many people have actual stories like the one you posted. I was in that thread, good times.
>>
>>18823071
>I was in that thread, good times.
Damn. How long have you been on here?

What's the most exciting thread you remember being in?
>>
>>18823102
Fuck, that's a tough one. I guess I'd have to say my favorite kind of threads are the "personal experiences" ones. Horror movies, tv shows, books, games, none of these can really creep me out that much, but a good /x/ thread of supposedly "true" experiences can give me a few chills.
>>
>>18823107
That makes sense. With personal /x/periences at least you have some basis that what happened is real.
>>
>>18823123
And even if they're not, they're more interesting than the typical bullshit roleplays we get nowadays.

Back in my day, roleplayers at least put in an effort before admitting they trolled you.
>>
>>18823134
Sounds like it must've been fun.

Do you know of any other good paranormal forums? This board doesn't really seem to be interesting me that much anymore.
>>
>>18823137
You sound new, so I'll just say what I always say to that. /x/ has cycles. It goes through good and shit cycles. Actually, I have more /x/ tabs open right now than I have in a while, but there's still a lot of garbage to wade through too.
>>
>>18823139
I've been here since 2015, I think. I didn't know it works in cycles like that. I've always just seen oldfags talk about how much better it was 4-5 years ago. Nobody else has said anything about it working in cycles. Thanks, man.

Yeah, you're pretty fresh. Just stick around. And if you want it to get better, contribute to good threads. Maybe post some sea monsters up in here since we've derailed it so much.

I ain't got any pictures of sea-monsters, since almost all of my /x/ shit is on my other computer. But I do have this squid.

I don't know why, but this picture creeps me the fuck out. I've been into marine biology (especially creatures in the deep ocean) since I was a little kid, and I live in a coastal town. But the ocean scares me, and I stopped going to the beach in middle school. When we'd go on field trips to the pool, I'd be the only one not to go. My friends would always tease me about it, and the teachers would ask me why I didn't go on any field trips involving water. Don't get me wrong, I love studying the ocean and I love water, but I'm scared of going in the ocean. You'd be able to get me on a boat and go way out into the ocean, but there's no way in hell I'd go in that water.

I live nowhere near the ocean (always wanted to see it) but I've always had a fascination with it. Still, I'd never, ever go inside it. Maybe on a boat, maybe, but not for very long and not very far out.

The beach is fun when you don't live near it. Once you start living there it gets really boring, unless you like to surf or fish or something.

Hello fellow oldfag. I was in that thread too, one of the best threads ever on x

Never creeped me out tho, the ocean is just insanely fascinating to me. I feel extremly at peace when submerged underwater in the ocean.
But the one thing that freaks me the fuck out is cave diving, who in their right mind would do that?
>>
>>18823190
OP here. If I ever decided to take up diving and I got good at it, I'd probably try cave diving. I'm also obsessed with caves (especially underground rivers/lakes, and caves that go super deep for miles). I like to do a lot of risky shit.

I guess I may as well share a story. Not very creepy so much as fascinating.

Went diving to a wreck 18m down last year. When you went to look inside the wreck, all of the fish were just still, not moving or anything, except for when they were pulled by the current.

Merchant Sailor here.

Two days ago, I saw a bright light on the night sky. It was moving fast, like a shooting star. However after flying for a couple of seconds, it altered its course significantly, and then it was gone. It was like it took off and bolted.
I have never seen shooting stars change course, but hey, the is a first for everything.

Thoughts?

Did you never wonder where dead fish go?
They die, float upwards and downwards and get decomposed, or eaten, and then they turn into what on land you would call earth, or dirt.
That´s the latest possible stadium of something dead in the sea when it finally starts to sink.
It´s basically a thick layer deep beneath the habitable zones of water that consists of decayed biomatter that floats up and down that´s never really completely decomposed.
That mass of death looks like snow.
Some sorts of life inhabit that place and the layers below that, but they are almost impossible to find.
Cause they live in a cemetary.
God damn, there´s a layer of dead shit and other shit lives in there.
It´s snowing in a place where there was never light.
God help me.

Lots of satellite launches lately, that would be my first guess. Where were you, what direction was it travelling before and after it changed course? Between Denmark and Norway, westbound. The light was observed to the south west on a westerly course before it veered south east-ish. A first it appeared to be descending, after the course alteration, it appeared to be flying level.
Meteor (forgot the word, thanks) would probably be the rational explanation.
I do not believe it was a satellite, the light was too bright. A rocket would not have maneuvered that erratic, I suppose.

Not that scary but figured I'd share cuz it was weird. Surfing one day in really choppy and murky water with like two other guys out in the whole town, guy next to me gets pulled off his board and starts freaking out and screaming. Gets back on and paddles in fast as fuck so I did the same. Walked up to him and asked what happened and he said something grabbed his leg and pulled him, and there was no bite marks or anything. He swore something grabbed his ankle and yanked him down. I finished my session then.
>>
>>18826568
Fuck man, that's the thing about the ocean, you never know. Could have been he got wrapped in seaweed or snagged on something, or some unknown animal screwing around. No bite marks, so maybe squid/octopus? Do they even get that close to the surface voluntarily?
>>
>>18826589
At first thought he got his leash snagged by a pipe that was submerged with the tide but he said it wasn't and when I looked where we were we weren't near the pipe at all. This was September in New Jersey I can't really think of what could've done that without leaving a mark
>>
>>18826638
When somebody gets pulled under, I'm sure their first fear is "shark", but there are tons of things in the water that might want to attack or investigate the strange creature in their territory.
>>
>>18826658
Without a doubt, especially by us we have a great white breeding area a mile or so off the coast. Most frightening thing I've seen in the water was a manatee in florida, fucking huge gray boat bursting out of the water. They're stupidly docile and friendly so they're not actually scary but at first glance it looks like a sea monster
>>
>>18826672
They're kind of cute, but I'd definitely freak at anything larger than a small fish in the water with me, no matter how harmless.

Well, this thread has turned to shit with all these monster drawings

but I'll attempt to save it by telling my story

this happened circa 2003
I was 11 years old and sailing with my godfather
it was around 6:30pm, almost night
then something started to hit our ding's hull
He told me to look at it
I then saw a massive shadow below the boat
some really really big shadow underneath us
It wasn't a whale, let me say that, its shape was completely different, and at least 6 meters long
Maybe it was some deformed big ass great white shark, but considering we were in south america back then, I find it difficult

sailed in the same sea after that but never saw the creature again
I wish I had a smartphone back in the day, it was loch ness stuff

I dont lack reading comprehension. I was responding to the newfag that thought 2012 was a long time. I never said thats when you joined bud, relax

Well, one person already did, so I thought that's what you meant too.

I guess it's kind of pointless anyway. Oldfags can be elitist dicks and there are some newfags that have only been around a year or two that make great threads.

It is not ice in a classical way. The water would become a solid under the immense pressure

As a guy who has lived 20 minutes from the ocean his whole life, it loses its charm once you start wasting your days watching tourists shit in the water.
I was actually in the water once when someone's kid who was floating near me straight up shit in the water and tried to pass off his turd as a piece of coral to try and get the little girl playing with him to touch it.
I wish I was lying.

Cthulhu is completely overdone, however that should not be grounds to dismiss Lovecraft completely. He has plenty of other stories which rely not on the Cthulhu mythos but on cosmic horror. For an example of this, I recommend The Music of Erich Zann or The Rats in the Walls (which even has a cat named Nigger-Man).

Basically.

Holy shit, tourists suck, but goddamn, this is on a whole nother level

I have one question though.

Did the little girl ever end up touching his shit?

That's exactly what it's named after.

Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember hearing that the connection was made because the worm's jaws can snap shut powerfully enough to sever a finger.

>>18829799
Similar but different. It was nothing special, just the kind that parasitizes the gills of fish. Whenever I opened a fish's gills I would see a handful of them clinging onto them. They seemed particularly fond of flatfish like flounder, halibuts, and soles. Keep that in mind the next time you have a fish dinner.

I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that those are the males of the species that live in the gills - like only the females replace the tongue and the males hang out in the gills and scavenge.
