This probably happens as a giant game between advanced alien species, they get to play god and sit back for a few millennia and watch as their creations survive, conquer their planet, expand into their system, discover another created species, fight it out.

It's like a galactic strategy game, the exact thing you would expect a bored and immortal race of beings to be engaged in. Read Greek myths closely and you will see that's exactly what humans are, people just forgot their place, and the God's pulled back so they could observe without interference.

Basically, the sun is devoid of sunspots right now. It is very "quiet;" it isn't throwing off as much solar wind. I can't think of how this would affect our view of it, or if it would cause a noticeable brightening. That could be an effect of cosmic rays increasing as our heliosphere weakens, but that's pure guessing.

In any case, the sun is about to hit it's solar minimum, and will be quieter than we've seen for over 100 years. Perhaps since the 17th century.

I remember what the sun looked like on nov 2016. It looks like it does now. I remember when the sun looked like a disc, a disc as described by the ancient egyptians. But no. The sun very clearly is extremely bright, vibrant, it feels like it is beaming with excited energy. Its not like before. And it is quite clearly not winter anymore. The weather here is pleasantly warm. Spring is going to bloom soon.
