Before it turned into a kindergarten channel, Discovery Kids freaked me out in 2 ways. One was a show about how animation was made, and once they showed an animation of a very primitive human opening and closing his fingers as if doing "scissors", but then the skin between his fingers started to rip and bled.
Another one was pic related, the Slime Monster from the last episode of Ghost Writer. It killed or trapped in chewing gum every single character in the last episode, only to reveal at last it was just a story written by one character

I used to watch daytime TV after school as a kid, in around sixth grade I caught an episode of Sally Jessie Raphael about a family who was being terrorized by spirits/paranormal activity in their house.

It seemed so fucking real to me, probably because of the context of being on a talk show and these people seemed genuinely in distress.

I had problems sleeping for around the next 3+ months and had to be put on anti-anxiety meds because I used to panic at the idea of going home.

I saw Aliens when I was 5, very little after that effected me. Getting my first bike stolen fucked me up worse.
The closest thing I can remember is when I was living in another country, we moved to this townhouse far from the city and what was left of what friends who hadn't moved away (most of them were diplomat or army brats). I spent a ton of time alone and got so bored that I started coming up with inventive ways to kill bugs in the backyard just to pass the time.
Placing them between two rocks and dropping a third, feeding them to ants, throwing them down the well etc etc. Then I tried making a magificent little decoration by piercing them by their thorax on a rose bush's thorns. I did this to about 30.
3 days later, I inspected it again, and touched one. It wiggled it's legs. It was still alive, they all were.
I pulled them off and crushed them all. They'd been up for days and to an insect it must have felt like months, I still feel bad about it.

So this is a really obscure reference right...but when I was really little there was this show called Sitting Ducks. The show was about a duck and an alligator and they were friends, the town they lived in was split into 2 halves. One side was made of alligators and the other ducks. Anyway, the alligators would normally eat ducks but one of the episodes was about an urban legend. There was a duck named "quack the ripper" who would eat both ducks and alligators. Cheesy I know. Basically most of the episode was about one of the ducks dressing up as him and scaring away all the alligators, but he gets caught, tied up, and is about to be eaten when the real quack the ripper shows up and scares everyone off. It doesn't show him, only a black outline with huge claws and teeth and its screaming loudly, this thing gave me nightmares though. Like I would see it outside my window.

Something that got me over time from my childhood took me a bit to realize, but I was really fucking spooped to discover what I did about it.

When I was a really young kid, I loved the Land Before Time, that movie with the animated dinosaurs in it. But as time wore on I started to like it less and less, and I realized one day maybe two years ago now that I got this uneasy feeling thinking about it for some reason, like something or some feeling about the show had left a lasting impression of uneasiness.

So I decided to do some digging and find out if there were themes or things about the show that might disturb me as a child, and when I noticed that nothing about the subject matter of the show really felt off, I dug a little bit further.

That's when I discovered the child voice actress for the character, Ducky, was killed at ten years old along with her mother by her father in a double murder suicide. I honestly think this might be what eventually led to my uneasy feelings about the show, even though I didn't know about this until I did my searching around. I guess maybe as a kid, when you're more perceptive to odd things and more prone to uneasy feelings it can be easy to feel an underlying strangeness about something even when it isn't apparent on the surface.

Anyways The Land Before Time still creeps me the fuck out and probably worse now.

When I was 7 I had 2 quarts of blood drawn over 4 hours for a bunch of lab work due to a medical condition. About 3/4 of the way in my blood pressure dropped really low and I had a seizure. When I woke up I was in a disassociative fugue for about a week. Ever since then Ive had a phobia of needles. When I see them my joints start to ache and my palms sweat. I know its completely irrational but I cant seem to get over it. Ive had shots and blood work done since then and I become extremely stressed out but nothing bad ever happens. The worst part is the nightmares. For 15 years Ive had dreams of myself and loved ones getting stabbed with giant needles, being chased by people with needles, falling into piles of needles, ect. It sucks and I wish it would go away, my mom is actually a licensed therapist and hypnotherapist, I just dont want to tell anyone that I fear something so irrational. I wish I could get over it without asking for help..

I thought it was some sort of carnival freak especially because it was so convincing with the way the actress was able to move her stomach muscles. I remember being like, 6 or something. I had older cousins that I desperately looked up to and wanted to emulate. All they would talk about for a while is the Alien movies. How cool they were, how not spooked they were, all that cool older kid shit I was still too much of a babby to really get. Well, I got it in my head that I had to see the Alien movies. Parents did the responsible thing, said no, but then rented the movies so they could watch them on their own after I had gone to bed. So me being a little shit, I sneak out of my room while they're watching it, camp my ass on the stairs behind the couch and start watching the movie, cause fuck you parents, i know what's best for me.

Big mistake.

I come down right at the part where they cut the power. Everything is red lights and the constant gnawing pulse of the motion tracker. People are panicking, shit is going down, im about to shit my pants from the tension. Then Hicks peeks his fucking head up through the ceiling grates and I see this shit on the tv.

Almost 30 now, to this day, despite seeing these movies many times over the years and loving them, I still have nightmares about these fuckers. Like, full on night terror, running for my life kinda shit.

Shoulda just stayed in bed and played with my transformers.

Man there was some cartoon when I was a kid. I think it was a movie about a tugboat. Or some sort of boat, and for whatever reason he goes to boat jail and the fucking bouys on the way to jail are scary as fuck. They rocked back and forth judging the boat. You're collectively lucky that you remember what your scariest childhood show/movie/tape is.

I remember this tape we had as a kid that I watched when I was really young. It had two parts, one about an old lady who cries because her flowers are wilting, and she talks in a really disturbing faltering voice, and then her tears make the plant come to life and it sings some weird quasi-soul music with vocalizations, whole thing was some sort of claymation. Second part had an elephant (second part was like disney-ish anthro animals) that was playing baseball (other anthro animal schoolkids were shouting Hey batter batter!) and got lost out in the ocean on a foggy dock. That's all I remember but the way it was produced, particularly the sound, drilled nightmares into my mind. I lurk these threads hoping someone will find it but no dice since 2015. Googling reveals nothing! Adds to the creepy factor for me, I've found literally every other video we had online but that one, and it's probably my most distant memory of non-cable TV, as in physical tapes or movies.

I remember getting a huge collection of goosebumps from a garage sale as a kid. I still remember the old book smell and the almost coarse light tan pages None of them really scared me that much until I got to the Night of the Living Dummy series. I think I only had 1-3. Look around the room and scream loudly. My sister had put about six dolls around my bed. I kick the one closest to me, it flies into the wall and I sprint out of my room. Everyone wakes up, my dad is yelling at me until he sees what happens. Drift asleep to the sounds of my sister getting spanked. Got in trouble the next day because I shattered the head of the doll with my kick. Puppets and mannequins still freak me out if I'm not prepared to see them.

I couldn't even look at the DVD cover in the store as a kid. Now that I'm older I can see the humor in it, but the creepy, insect-like movements are still a bit much.

The game, by far. I strongly recommend you play it if you never have, the original is a lot of fun, but 12 year old me had a hard time with the horror since the only other games I had played were the original Halo and Dark Age of Camelot.
