Utterly fucked up, in a good way. Love the soundtrack, especially the theme of the girl that's into martial arts.

I would add "Marebito" and "Noroi" to the list, but I'm a sucker for 90s/early 00s found footage movies.

A Tale of Two Sisters probably best horror ITT story wise. then Confessions. For scares I'd say The Eye was probably the most unnerving to watch.

theres some pretty good suggestions in this thread. Noroi is one of my favourites. but for me, Dark Water (2002) always stayed with me. Like as in it changed me a bit. I think its the scariest Japanese horror film I've seen and i highly recommend it.

Three (2002) (the American release is called 3 Extremes II (2002)).

There'e also a sequel called Three... Extremes (2004)

Both are a collection of three short horror films by some of the best asian horror directors. The stories are very good

Kairo (2001) (American release is called Pulse (2001)) Is also pretty decent and right up /x/'s alley. Its about summoning spirits through the internet. It was super popular when it came out in 2001, but i havent seen it since then so i cant say whether or not it aged well.

Honorable mention:
Uncle Boonmee Who can Recall his Past Lives (2011)

This isnt actually a horror film but it has this constant super creepy feeling in it that is surreal, unsettling, and strangely calm. It won an academy award for best foreign film. And since I've seen it I've been desperately searching for more films like it. This film is an experience.

Edit: uncle boonmee who can recall his past lives was released in 2010, not 2011. sorry.

For the people who liked the Extremes series, the short "Dumplings" became it's own full length film! It will be especially disturbing to older people, especially if female.

Rampo Noir is a good collection if you like anthologies. My favorite out of the bunch is "Mirror Hell"- a murder mystery wrapped in vanity and madness.
