The clown scare of last year was a product of viral/guerilla marketing for the remake of It. It began as a couple paid people playing the part and was soon emulated and imitated by all kinds of degenerates and ass hats looking for a cheap thrill. Think of that episode of It's Always Sunny where Dee and Dennis dress up as murderers and follow the waitress around. Same basic premise.

This was done to build hype for the remake, but when it got out of hand and there were accounts of actual trouble caused beyond just mischief, the studio responsible cut all ties with the campaign in order to avoid lawsuits and legal trouble.

tldr;shitty ad campaign for what's likely to be a shitty remake of a decent movie based on a great book. Anyone saying otherwise is likely a shill, an idiot or mis-informed.

My kids were terrified - it obviously turned out to be fake, but apparently the school kids almost trampled each other as one of the older ones started a stampede from one end of the school to the other. Obviously, the headteacher send emails home and gave the kids an assembly.
