Amazon Rainforest Shaped by Pre-Columbian Civilizations

Indigenous peoples who inhabited the Amazon before the arrival of European colonisers planted a vast number of trees, a new study argues. They played an important role in the current composition of the forest. Researchers found that species used for food or building materials were far more common near ancient settlements. "So the Amazon is not nearly as untouched as it may seem," said Dr Hans ter Steege in the Netherlands. Eighty-five species that produced Brazil nuts, cashew nuts, acai or rubber were also five times more likely to be dominant in mature forest than non-domesticated species. The scientists reached their conclusions by comparing data on tree composition from more than 1,000 locations in the Amazon with a map of archaeological sites.

Time Crystals - New State of Matter

For the first time ever, scientists have successfully managed to create time crystals in a laboratory. First proposed by physicist Frank Wilczek back in 2012, a time crystal is essentially a state of matter with an atomic structure that repeats not only in space, but also in time - allowing it to keep "ticking" indefinitely without heating up or creating entropy.

"We've taken these theoretical ideas that we've been poking around for the last couple of years and actually built it in the laboratory," said Andrew Potter from the University of Texas, Austin. "Hopefully, this is just the first example of these, with many more to come."

Adventures in Demonology: Hear Vincent Price’s Rare How-To on Selling Your Soul to the Devil

Everyone with a love of scary movies knows that Vincent Price is the undisputed king of horror, starring in nearly a hundred spooky films since his Hollywood debut in 1933. What many people don’t know, however, is that during his horror heyday, he recorded four spoken word records on the subject of the occult, including one with a detailed how-to on spirit summoning and demonology. Now, you can hear it for yourself.

Now a mega-rare collectible, this double LP sees the master of horror recounting true tales of occult terror. The second half of the record is devoted entirely to acting as a guide to conjuring spirits, including demons. For a novelty record, it’s surprisingly thurough.

In the first half, Kenneth Stoller, MD discussed his maverick approach to health and medicine. In the latter half, zoologist and author Bill Schutt demystified the phenomenon of cannibalism in nature, as well as among humans.


Wednesday: Alternative Health

During the first half, Dr. Joel Wallach shared alternative health approaches, and the benefits of natural remedies and supplements that aid in the body's recovery from many diseases and ailments, without the use of dangerous and expensive pharmaceuticals. Open Lines followed.


Thursday: Federal Reserve & Global Warming/ Mind Manipulations

In the first half, writer and documentary film producer G. Edward Griffin weighed in on a variety of topics, including the role of the Federal Reserve System and how it affects the economy and the notion of man-made global warming. In the latter half, author and expert in subliminal communication Eldon Taylor discussed the many ways in which our culture has been trained to conform.


Friday: Hemingway's Secret Espionage

Longtime CIA officer, former Marine colonel, and Oxford-trained historian Nicholas Reynolds, while he was curator at the CIA Museum, began to discover tantalizing clues that suggested Ernest Hemingway's involvement in World War II-era intelligence work was much more complex than previously understood. Expanded Perspectives: Atlanta's Ripper

On this weeks episode of Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about how US private rocket company SpaceX has announced that two private citizens have paid to be sent around the Moon. Then, Military bigwigs gathered in Orlando this week for the annual AirWarfare Symposium to discuss big plans for big weapons that do big damage. Then, a Cumberand County, PA, witness reported an unusual series of “huge, bright, round lights” beaming to the ground level near her property with no sound that appeared to get her dog’s attention.

After the break Kyle brings up the story of Atlanta’s very own Jack the Ripper case. Beginning in 1911, terror struck the black community of Atlanta, Georgia as an unknown killer or killers roamed the dark streets of Atlanta, preying upon young African American women. Over the course of the next four years, the list of victims swelled to over 20 people and became known as the Atlanta Ripper, a play off the name of the famous London killer, as the city was in the grip of fear over where and whom the fiend would strike next.

Astonishing Legends: Electronic Fog

We know that Distance = Rate x Time but when one of the variables of that equation is altered beyond reason by some unimaginable force of nature, the result can challenge what we think we know about the natural world. This was the experience of pilot Bruce Gernon, who believes he encountered a rare, yet natural phenomenon during a routine flight from Andros Island in the Bahamas to Palm Beach, Florida. Minutes after taking off from Andros (which also happens to be located within the legendary “Bermuda Triangle”). Gernon, along with his father who was acting as co-pilot and navigator and another passenger who was their business partner, found themselves rapidly being enveloped in a strange and powerful storm. A bizarre tunnel of clouds chased and formed around them, and by all objective and rational observations, appears to have warped spacetime itself. Gernon would later write about his theory of the experience calling the phenomenon, “Electronic Fog.” Could a severe weather anomaly be the cause of the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle, or is there a greater supernatural force causing the extreme weather?
