I've always found Alternate Reality Games extreamly intresting, So I thought that maybe making one would be a fun "project" to work on during my free time.
So I'm basically asking you guys in /x/ for some advice on what to do and what not to do.
>>18752798
Don't.
>>18752847
Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep that important information in mind
>>18752798
This picture is triggering me.
>>18752867
Yeah, I kinda thought the picture would trigger some people.
Whoops
hmm, you could make some messages through x as hints to sites of the game..idk

I remember when I was a kid I kept looking at this picture as there were rumours it was making people commit suicide and suddenly it turned into something looking like medusa I was so fucking scared it was a fucking .gif I guess

Do's:
>Make thoughtful, open-ended puzzles that lead to multiple different answers
>Have each separate answer lead to either a dead end or the right track
>Put in more effort than an elementary school science fair project
>Rely on several formats (audio, physical, digital, etc)
>Have an actual ending and some minor reward at a physical location(like a cheap gift card)
>Use geo-caching/usb dead drops
Don'ts:
>Use the same fucking cryptography shit as everyone else, look at the different options (Rot13, Navajo, Vigenere, Enigma, etc)
>Rely on the same tricks multiple times in it, variety is the spice of life
>Shill it constantly on 4chan. Try something different instead, like placing the first clue in a television, newspaper/magazine, or radio advertisement. Explore, be fuckin creative.
>Copy the same shit everybody else has done 50 billion times before

Insanity rising on a daily. May god be with us all. Is this an ARG?
Much love yall
Don't give away what the ARG is about right off the bat.
A lot of ARG'S start off with letting you knowing what it's in relation to, and then move forward (Ex. This is a Halo ARG, now find the clues). Don't do this. A lot of fun comes from figuring out what the ARG is about.
Make seemingly unrelated objects/ideas/websites vaguely related.

The world is going through massive changes. Feel the birth pains.
This is our ARG
Best ARG I've even seen was the MetaCortex ARG back in 2002-2003.
>Set in The Matrix universe
>centered around an HR employee who worked for MetaCortex (same software company Neo worked for)
>she starts to figure out what The Matrix is
>she goes missing
>Have to try to figure out if she's on the run, if she was abducted by Agents or if she escaped the Matrix altogether
>real websites with logins you have to figure out
>real email addresses that reply uniquely to each email received
>real phone numbers
>real world drop sites
Shit was cash. So many night spent in Yahoo chat and AIM messenger with everyone trying to figure it all out. I joined the military right before the end but I think she was on the run from Agents and ended up being murdered.

Thanks man, these tips are really helpful. DESU the place I live in is perfect for actual physical locations.

Bad example, but something like EverymanHybrid?
>>18753855
Yeah, I know about the story. The reason I put that picture in is because the idea of it kinda ties in with what I'm writing atm
>>18753855
all spoopy stories about this picture were a hoax.
>>18752881
Wait... how? did I miss Something?
>>18755489
Yeah, like most things
What are ARGs, if you don't mind me asking.
