Give me some local urban myths and legends from where you live.
In Scotland we used to have these stories of guys in clown outfits that would kidnap children and kill them in a blue ford transit van. This story was popular in Glasgow primary schools in the 90s and 00s.
Here's a blog post with lots of interesting experiences with the clown legend: https://alancook.wordpress.com/2010/03/17/killer-clowns-in-transit-vans-in-the-1990s/
What urban myths were spread around where you live?
>>
>>18736408
>blue ford transit van.
This is so generic, only white ones are more generic than blue. Imagine every fourth ford transit being a suspect car.
>>
>>18736433
I'm just relaying the story, although the I've heard a variation on it with a white transit before
>>
>>18736446
That's even scarier. The transit is the most common van out there. Back here, we had the same story with a black van.
>>
More of a rural myth, but the Mutilating Lights. Out on the moors near Manchester, weird lights would be seen, then the next day sheep would be found dead and torn apart, or with savage wounds. Scared the crap out of me and there was no way I would go up there after dark.
>>
Where I used to live we had La Llorona. On the Texas border (and all over the border and Mexico) it is one of the most known urban legends.

Basically,

>chick loved a soldier
>had two kids with him
>he went off to go do soldier stuff
>came back with another woman
>chick he had kids with goes apeshit
>kills the two kids by drowning them in the Rio Grande
>because that is reasonable, right?
>now her soul is locked out of the afterlife until she finds her kids
>she wanders the riverbanks at night or near bodies of water
>snatches kids up and drowns them
>fin.

Tons of other ones from down there. And a few where I live now. But that was just the "local favorite" from where I grew up.

does a downie girl who sneaks out of her house at 4am and starts screaming and knocking on houses and windows count
>>
>>18736408

I grew up on a farm, about two minutes from a town of about 3500; the town itself is a quick ten minute drive from the city I live in now. There was a little house right across the street from the high school, it was basically a modern one room shack, from what I know. Never been inside or anything. It has a history though.

>early 70's
>married couple lived there, wife had an affair
>husband beat her to death with a hammer

>mid 80's
>single woman lived there, no kids or anything
>she hung herself, no idea why, maybe depression

>late 80's
>another husband and wife move in
>they split, wife moved away
>husband hung himself

>mid 90's
>woman and her young son move in
>woman couldn't care for her son, she was quite sick with cancer
>not sure what happened to her son, but she died from cancer roughly four years after moving in

I was born in 1983 and moved to that farm in 1987. I started hearing stories about the place in elementary school, everyone had heard about the place's history. There were tons of stories kids told about the place; that it was haunted, that you could see faces peering out at night, stuff like that.

I really have no idea why so much stuff happened in that place. It was dirty cheap though, you could buy the place for a damn song. My mom and I talked about it a few times, she said maybe it had something to do with the people there being extremely low income, but who the hell knows.

In Warsaw we have this one urban legend back from commie times. It's about a black colored Volga car that apparently used to drive around the poorer parts of the city and kidnap kids and women. People used to say it was either vampires or old rich jews/germans needing blood tranfusions and fresh organs for transplants.
>>
Neighbours first ever maid calls it quits on the first night because apparently she heard an old lady screaming constantly throughout the night (no old ladies lived anywhere close). Neighbour hires a new maid, she also calls it quits on the first night for the same reason. The maids don't even know each other. Neighbour has a business trip, leaves son in charge, son has a party (barely anyone showed lol), supposed to be an all nighter but people started leaving because "someone kept screaming". No animals would go anywhere near that house for some reason. Literally, every house on the street had a bear cub problem, bear would never visit neighbours house even if he left out a nice piece of steak.
This made the rounds in my old neighbourhood when I was a kid.
>>
>>18740314
This one's the best bc it's probably real
>>
>>18736408
where i live there's a yellow house out on a field on a hill side, it was evacuated decades ago when the family living there got cancer from asbestos. it's now supposedly haunted, most common route to the house is through an abondoned playground located between two houses.
>>
>>18740372
The old rich fucks version is pretty plausible, yeah.
>>
Back when I was in school there were rumors flying around about "The orange lady." It was mainly shit like kidnapping and molestation, I don't remember it too well. She always dressed with bright orange fabrics wrapped around her, and covered her face with a large hat and sunglasses. I saw her a few times when coming home from school with my mates on quiet streets, we always took a detour whenever we saw her.

Looking back on it, she could have just been a Muslim immigrant going grocery shopping or something.

Im from Poland ane we have a handful of interesting stories surrounding my neighborhood, organs hunters demons interacting with people and such.
But the one from my childhood i remember well.
Some guys were drinking and playing cards in the middle of a stormy night in the barn.
And some guy in leather long coat and a hat came in and asked them if he can play too, they agreed do they play those cards and one dude drops csrd on the ground he bends over to grab it under the tabke and notices thst leather coat guy have hoovs for feet.
Everybody looses their shit and get the fuck outta here right away. And thats the end of a story
>>
>>18737990
As a child, my parents told me a variation of that story, that the lady would appear in mirrors at night if you weren't asleep during bedtime. Thing is, I had a closet door that had a giant mirror on it that faced my bed. Good times.

white vans are renowned for being nonce transport though

I always remember riding my bike around a park near my house when I was 8, this van got incredibly close to me and stopped, I shouted fuck off like a cocky child and sped off and nothing happened thankfully.

Another time when I was 14 I was skateboarding at an indoor park in a shitty part of town, it was like 1am and I was waiting outside for my dad to pick me up and a middle aged man in a blacked out range rover drove past slowly, a few minutes later he did the same thing again, screwed my face up and he drove away, probably thought I was a rent boy desu

Theres this one story i've heard my entire life
I basically live in small swedish "redneck" village

>outside village there is a big, really old graveyard
>near the graveyard there is this area that looks like pic related
>about 200 years ago a woman drowned her newborn baby and herself in one of the puddles here because the baby was born out of wedlock which was a great shame to the family at that time
>supposedly, at night you sometimes can hear the baby crying and the woman shushing the baby while crying herself

its very generic but i actually have two stories about it too
the first one is a story about my dad which he has told me countless times

>dad and his friend has been to the neighbour village to pick up girls
>its about 3 am
>drunk and happy they decide to spook the girls
>stop the car in the 'haunted' swampy forest area
>they tell the story to the girls, girls want to go home
>just when they are about to start the car they clearly hear it
>a baby LOUDLY crying
>start car and get the fuck outta there asap
>dad refuses to stop there even today

next story is actually about me

>just got my drivers license
>go to graveyard to visit my mothers grave
>about 11.30 pm
>on my way home i decide to stop by the spooky area
>turn off car
>roll window down to listen
>turn off lights
>just sitting there, listening
>start thinking about my recently passed away mom
>i forget the time
>i forget that this is supposed to be spooky
>suddenly a cold breeze and a sense of regret hits me
>realize where the fuck i am and what the fuck im doing
>listen carefully
>can hear a woman sobbing quietly from the forest
>start the car and get the fuck outta there asap

now that i think about it theres actually a couple of spooky things that has happened around here

>me (about 8 years old) and my family at grandmas place, eating her delicous food
>she seems distant and isnt really listening to anything we say
>suddenly she starts talking about her recent car drive to a friend
>says she clearly saw 4 really small gray creatures standing upright at the edge of a forest
>everyone shrugs it off and continues eating

>i grow up and grow interested in this type of stuff
>ask grandma about that one time she saw 4 gray creatures
>she goes all white and refuses to talk about it

Alright will do, the main one in my area was pretty average "man in the shed" goes like this
>in prospector days a man came with his family
>built a homestead but quickly ran out of money
>one night he comes home
>drunk and angry he attacks his wife
>his eldest son gets in the way
>man beat son to death
>kills everyone in the house
>the man shot himself shortly after
>even today you can hear screaming in the forest
>it gets louder the closer you get to the house

Not sure about the accuracy but the house is real when I was about 10 me and the group of neighborhood kids went exploring to find it it was an old run down cabin with a collapsed roof we wanted to spend the night in the woods but once it got dark we pussied out. Only saw it one other time when I was 16 by accident, me and a big group were drinking in the woods and I could see it in the clearing I could have sworn I heard someone screaming but I brushed it off at the time, got plenty more if anyone is interested and some of my own spooky experiences

In the giant field behind the fence behind my house, was Old Man Vinegar's house. His dog would catch kids who took the shortcut through his lawn. Old Man Vinegar would take the kids and lock them up in his basement, sponge bathing them with vinegar every day to keep them clean.
>>
In a lake near my house, there's supposedly a lake monster called the Dobharchu. story goes that a couple of hundred years ago it killed a woman at the lake and when her husband found her he killed the monster, only for another to come out of the lake and chased him up a mountain where he finally killed it. It's grave is meant to be up that mountain but afaik it isn't accessible by foot.
>>
In the high jungles of Peru where my family would occasionally visit there was a popular waterfall, and though it was swarming with toruists during the day, they block off the trail to there around 5:00 (before dusk even).

When we asked about this the local residents said that a demon lurked in these woods at night, hence the precautions.

Legend has it that when you walk on that trail something will make you stray behind the rest of the group you go with, maybe an untied shoelace or looking at something on the side of the trail, etc. They say that once you stray behind that's when the demon attacks you. This was mainly supported by a story in the city that a group of teenage girls snuck in and were going to the waterfall, in the morning their bodies were found, If I remember right their bodies had been impaled by growing flowers that do not belong to that region of the jungle. Thus adding to the mystery of it all.

...Or so the story goes.

In my hometown Sunderland there's a Castle called Hylton Castle where a ghost supposedly roams about at night crying.. "I'm cold". He's called "The Cauld lad".

The story goes.. The Lord of the castle, Lord Hylton, had thrown a stable boy out one night for whatever reason and the boy died from exposure. He now haunts the grounds at night crying to anyone who'll listen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cauld_Lad_of_Hylton

We also hadve a legend dubbed "The Lambton Worm".

The story goes.. A local rich kid goes fishing one day and hooks some kind of worm/eel/snake.. which he then throws down a well. He goes off to fight the crusades for a decade and returns.. only to find the worm is now 100's of feet long and is attacking the local cattle/kids etc. He corners it at Penshaw Monument, where it has wrapped itself around, and promptly chops off it's head.

This was actually going to be the story for the movie "Wicker Man 2".

South american urban legends are pretty sp00ky. Here in Colombia and Venezuela we have "El silbón" (The whistler) and goes like this:
>man killed his father during a rage outburst
>his grandfather, the authority of the village flagellated him for days
>exiled him from there
>as part of the punishment, he is forced to carry a bag full of his father's bones
>if you are walking through "el monte" (very deep inside the woods) you'll start to hear his unique whistling
>the weaker you hear it, the closer he is
>he'll then kill you so violently, as he did with his father
>after that, he will take your bones and add them to his collection
This kind of legends are very extended, so the version I was told may not be the same as yours.

>Get to big tree from before ravens are still there, loud as ever
>Sounds like a fucking machine gun
>See something in the tree
>Are those the fucking keys
>Breathe a sigh of relief while simultaneously giving god the finger
>Gotta climb
>Climb up the tree, my weight's easy to hold cause I'm a stick
>Expect birds to fly off
>They don't
>They're all doing that sideways stare birds and animals do
>The keys are in a nest
>No eggs there
>Reach over
>Birds converge, pecking and biting at my arm
>Not much pain, but the shock is
real
>"Skyfall" plays in my head as I plumett from one of the tree's higher branches
>Go home covered in mud
>I won't be defeated
>Garage door is open
>Equip gloves
>Bike helmet
>Goggles
>Bat
>And my parent's decorative stones they never used, all about the size of my palm
>Back to the tree of black feathers
>Give the birds a sideways stare
>Middle of nowhere, just me and them
>Start chucking stones, the birds avoid them
>Try batballing a few, but my aim sucks
>Fuck this
>Climb up tree
>>
>>18749135
>Start bashing the branches with my bat
>The birds squawk in panic as their perches reject them
>Still, they only attack me once go for the nest
>I may be scrawny, but now I'm Prepared
>Grab a biter
>Hold it for a moment
>Look it in the eyes
>"This is my tree now, bitch-beak."
>Chuck the weakling
>Grab the nest
>They're all attacking me now
>To no avail
>Grab the keys
>Pocket them
>Tear up the nest and scatter its bits
>The birds are still squawking
>Get annoyed, leave
>Get bro from friend's house
>Unlock house
>Take nap
>Experience recurring nightmare about being swarmed by ravens until I can't see my body
>Can't take it
>I can still hear them
>Journal my story
>Stab self in brain
>Bleeding out
>Can still hear them
And to this day in Oakville, Ontario, people respect the bird's bounty.

Saint Louis region, there's a park and large lake area called Creve Couer.
Legend is about as Indian girl and her lover. He left for some reason, (war, hunting party, etc.) And died on the journey. She was so distraught that she jumped from the falls and committed suicide and what gave the lake it's name. Creve couer is French for broken heart.

Now it's said that those visiting the lake at night have seen her on the falls and some have even seen her jump. Still waiting for her love to return.

I live in Maryland, outside of Baltimore and we have a legend about "Upper Melinda".

The story goes that back when the area that is today Reisterstown was first settled, there was an old old woman named Melinda who was accused of being a witch.
She was tried and found guilty of witchcraft and sentenced to death by being cut in half. As she was tied to the rack to be bisected she entoned a horrible curse, that if the two halves of her body were ever reunited she would return more powerful than ever and enact her vengeance with horrible magic.

Her two halves were buried in separate graves far apart.

Here's the part I can confirm: If you trek into the woods near Reisterstown you can find a small stone in a clearing labeled UPPER MELINDA...

No one has found the Lower stone.

girl anon form Serbia reporting here
We had a myth running when I was in middle school about this white van and a black motorbike following it, who followed girls, kidnapped them and sliced them up, then put their body parts on the coast of the river.
I was genuinely scared of it until it turned out to be a hoax of some sort... or perhaps not. Considering that it never got solved, but the myth died down after a while.
The root of this was that some girl who was a year older than me suddenly disappeared (she actually went to Germany with her parents, but many people didn't get to know that, I suppose), and that her arms, torso, head and legs were found by the river bank. Obviously, later we all were told that she just moved away, and she's still active on social media, so that's definitely debunked.
It's probably not true, but it kept me and my classmates frightened for a while, especially when we had the afternoon shift in school. It would be late night by the time we got out, so we would stay in small groups and pay attention to who is passing by.

>When her neighbors discovered her terrible crime, they gathered an angry mob and chased her away from the village.
>They ostracized the woman and kept harassing her to the point where she was driven into despair and committed suicide.

>After her death, she returned from the grave as an evil spirit they call Wewe Gombel.
>She began kidnapping children and bringing them back to her lair to keep her company.

>However, they say she does not harm the kids and she only abducts those who have been mistreated or neglected by their parents.

>She treats the children lovingly, just like a grandmother would, taking care of them and protecting them.
>However, she forces them to suckle on her wrinkled breasts, no matter what age they are.
>Also, she feeds them human poop, which she fools them into eating by making it look like food.
>Not only that, but she smears mud all over their bodies and makes them think she has dressed them in expensive clothes.
>If you don’t eat what Wewe Gombel gives you, she will hold your nose and shove it down your throat.

>Wewe Gombel keeps the children in order to scare their parents and make them realize what they have done.
>As soon as the neglectful parents are sorry for the way they treated their children, she will return the kids unharmed.

I've heard that story. Was raised near the border near Amsted.

In my state (Minnesota) there's an island on the Mississippi called Grey Cloud Island. Supposedly super fucking haunted and sketchy. Been there a few times but never saw anything weird. It has the largest array of indian mounds in the county, maybe the state, and was the only site of an indian village in the county during the mid 19th century. Legends include:
>ghost of indian chief wanders the island with a green light lantern
>old cemetery in the middle, if you count the headstones of a row, turn around and count them again you'll find one missing
>a witch is buried close by with weeds all over the site
>a truck or SUV will follow you all around the island
>ghostly drums beating, ghostly coyotes howling
>weird church camp in the middle, supposedly cover site for a cult
>KKK members living on the island

Probably a load of bullshit but any anons from the Twin Cities and the eastern suburbs have probably heard of it.

Actually it's probably true though...

Polack here seems like alot of us have spooky tales kek, In medieval times there was a legend about a creature called the "Shtriga" a demon/witch or something like that. Basically you'd call her name out 3 times if you were close to death in war or what not and she would appear killing all those who threaten you. However once the deed has been done you had to go to hell with her.
Pic not related.

I've got a bunch of innawoods stories because i was in the boy scouts

>live on the border of norway/sweden
>germans passed through our town daily during the war, both on foot and by train ("lol we were just neutral, i swear XDDD")
>be boy scoutan
>found something that resembles the base of a giant church, seems like its been burned to the ground some time in the past
>in the middle of it all theres a giant hammer and sickle in iron
>ask everyone in the village about it
>noone knows anything or isnt telling
>>
Aus here, some creepy customers do their business all around the place, if you believe the tales

One near my childhood home
>abandoned power station
>history of accidental falls from high up, plenty of fatalities both during and after its period of operation
>widely reputed as haunted because of this
>now an urbex haven, graffiti everywhere
>pitch black tunnels running out under it in several directions, but most of the tunnels either head out to sea, or have been collapsed intentionally
>rumours abound of the tunnels once leading to the old prison nearby, where prisoners would be led to the shoreline for an all manner of satanic rituals and sacrifice

Never really experienced anything spoopy myself besides some phantom footsteps and once, when I thought someone breathed over my shoulder, but I worked it out to have been the strap on my pack scraping against the cement wall as I walked through a doorway.

Nevertheless, a really cool place. really thick atmo

Las Vegas spookiness I have found since moving here a couple months ago...
There is a strong element of human trafficking here, the tweakers/street urchins that meander about are spooky only cuz they'll steal your shit, the houses here don't have normal windows and doors because the sun is intense so its not uncommon to see blacked out windows or just small windows-it would be really easy to hold someone captive, cars with no license plates are common, and I suppose if you're hiking/off roading down in canyons someone can sneak up on you and it's open carry so that's kinda spooky... Man the whole strip has a fucked up energy about it-those casinos are fucking evil and I wouldn't be surprised if their epicenters for ultra dark shit.

Exmoor in the UK (rural area) has had an ongoing mystery of sheep being found with their throats torn out but uneaten since the 70s.
The most popular explanation is that it's a cougar or another big cat that was released into the wild as the beginning of the problem coincided with a law being passed making it illegal to keep them as pets, but's it's been going on for longer than any cat's lifespan, and no solid evidence has ever been found. Strange as well that it's never become that famous across the country like the Loch Ness monster even though there are actual dead sheep turning up and have been for decades.
Pic related is a breddy gud beer named after it.

Okay, I've got a pretty interesting one.

I live in the south, so every scary myth is inna woods.

Anyways, there's a myth surrounding the lake that is on the southern end of the county. It's the legend of Demon Dog. Yeah, It's pretty stupid. It's basically the result of a woman having sex with a dog and becoming pregnant with a demon-human-dog hybrid. The Demon Dog is said to hunt around the lake area for campers and will tear them apart and leave their bones in a neat pile to be found. It's interesting, but silly.

Pic is only related to how silly the story is.

Anyone got Ohio myths?

We've got Gore Orphanage in Vermillion, Lorain County. It's a little under an hour west of Cleveland. It's a supposed Orphanage that burned down in the 1800's with a bunch of kids in it, but folks are starting to think that's made up. Still seems spooky tho

don't live in the area anymore, but the local middle school was supposedly haunted. had some kind of big basement level, more than one floor if i remember, it was right next to the woods which had a cemetery in it, former school for deaf people which the teachers were abusive.

vaguely remember a day where at recess we were looking beyond the chainlink fence of the school grounds into the forest , some doll was hanging from one of the trees

>some soldiers have to share guns like fucking soviet peasants did in ww2

>no order because degeneracy is totally accepted (look no further than the MPs in NV)

>literally doing the exact same mistakes as the old world did, which would eventually cause another nuclear holocaust

>no CQC training, while The Legion have high quality firearms reserved for special occasions and are highly trained in CQC

I mean honestly dude, the whole fucking faction is a crumbling mess, and while yes the legion would fucking collapse in on itself if they ever ran out of land to conquer (like the romans did) or if Caesar died, they would probably last much longer than the fucking paper palace faux democracy bullshit that the NCR wants you to believe. Self governing states work much better than NCR/Legion to be honest, all totalitarian governments are eventually overthrown.

Free Vegas > Legion > NCR

>implying democracy isn't GOAT
>muh /pol/ degeneracy meme
>equipping your men with spears and swords like savages
lmao, show me one historically fascist nation still standing today. same with lolbertarian "free vegas."
>>
>>18760073
I don't mean degeneracy in the /pol/ sense, i don't usually agree with /pol/. I mean degeneracy in that they are corrupt, they drink and fuck whores in the streets and they are supposed to be the ones to protect the people of the wasteland. The Legion doesn't allow that shit because it keeps their soldiers clean, and that's a good thing. Regular people are still allowed to partake in those things, places like Colorado don't really even take that much shit from The Legion and are mostly left to their own devices as long as they stay in line and don't commit a bunch of crimes. Being equipped with swords and spears is better than having to share a fucking service rifle isn't it? I mean atleast you get to defend yourself from malnourished, lethargic, apathetic and untrained "soldiers" that would spend all their hard earned money on frivolous shit like drugs or women. Who needs that shit? Especially when there's death claws and giant fucking scorpions everywhere. I'm not saying that a fascist state is something that will last forever, but again, it would last longer than the fucking bureaucratic mess that is the NCR

can you provide sauce on the sharing a rifle thing?
>>
>>18760234
>An average soldier in the NCR army is issued with a service rifle and a 9mm pistol. Given its reliability, ease of manufacture, and firepower, the service rifle is ideal for the grueling war in the Mojave. However, due to logistical troubles and supply shortages, not all troopers can be issued with a service rifle, and instead, they must make do with whatever firearm is available.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/NCR_trooper

I'm pretty sure i read about the sharing specifically in a terminal somewhere in the game too
