You have your facts quite wrong anon.

Though im also leaning towards this being "grifter 2.0" and just another "internet legend", the site did in fact shut down for a few moments.

And the guy that admitted to being a hoax was talking about the picture he made, not the entire incident. The reason why so many people agreed that it was the real pic was because the hoax was orchestrated on discord.

The only things im weirded out about, is the sheer amount of well made "remakes" of the said image, never in the 8 years ive browsed /x/ have i seen so many replications of a paranormal photo in such a quick amount of time.

My theory for the amount of fakes being made is an attempt to:
1. Make it to where even if the real image is leaked, it would be discredited due to anons assuming "just another replica image"
2. Making anyone just learning about the image instantly pass it as a hoax when they see that an obvious cgi image is whats being called real
