My grandmother has some weird ass cures, makes her own vaporub with herbs and vodka; smells like isoprolol, gasoline and looks like twiggy mud.
>>18669740
Babushka is grandma, you might be thinking of Baba Yaha (can't read/write Ukrainian, that's how it sounds). Pretty much just a witch that would take children or some shit.

I'm pretty sure that E.E has to be the most boring place in the world.
Not sure about Russia tho.
wait if im lithuanian am i still eastern euro
i think baltics are considered northern europe now
In Estonia we have a national epic which is based on ancient legend.. About a giant and how he created our nation

Well, "babushka" in Russian means "granny", and this word has positive connotation. People use "babushka" not only when they talk about their own grannies, but just about any pleasant old woman. Another word for "granny" is "babka". The connotation is negative here, and as you can easily guess, we use it to describe an unpleasant old woman.
So, he most common word for that witches is "babka". Babka can be znaharka (like healer), or vedunja (like fortune-teller). Theese are the main specializations. Babkas are believed to have powers. Most of them pretend to be christians, but it's strange, as their magic is heresy from the christian point of view. They read "zagovori" (like spells), manipulate with water, know how to heal with herbs. Babkas can send or remove a curse, wich is called "sglaz" in our tradition.
Well, the majority of people don't take all this stuff seriously, I'm not an exeption. The most famous babka was Vanga (bulgarian), and she turned out to be just a fake. But lots of people still believe all this nonscence.
We've got plenty of various nations in slavlands. I prefer russian pomors and yakuts stories.

Yakutia is really one of the creepiest places in the world. Check this.

I love this. I want to take a sleeping bag there and take a comfy nap under the bells.

We try very hard to be a western european country, so I'd say no.
Really nothing spooky in the woods anyways, unless you count dilapidated logging camps and other shacks or bears as creepy.
>>18668511
First one is probably a wendigo, second one? Who the fuck knows
>>18668535
is that from stalker?
>>18669698
Yes, theyre called whisperers (szeptunka). It rare of not extinct tradition. Ive heard of two having a sort pf fight. One entered a shop and started cursing the clerk, and tha clerk started feeling ill and was in pain immedietly. Apparently if nothing had jappened the clerk could have died. Another szeptunka was in the store, and "exprcised" the other from the store.
Idk exactly how their magick works but it seems rather instant than ritual based. I do know however, that most polish swear words are essentially exorcism. The tradition to not say them is because they hold power to exorcise demons and if you abuse them they loose said power? That all i know desu

ahh well in lithuania we have a word for them that means female gender, someone who talks things up (kinda like spells) i think it probably came from the word zagavori which if im not mistaken means something uptalked or something that happened because of talking.

Wendigo is North American

I dated a polish girl who went to some fortune teller who told her something like ten years of her future. Thing is they got to keep recordings of it and she said that to this day it has been uncomfortably spot on.
>>18675485
Can confirm this. I've been visiting very old lady which was able to tell me my future from tarot cards and she was always damn right... about my family, future and paper work.

Exactly something a bloodsucker would say...
There really isn't much creepy about Eastern Europe, not really any hauntings or cryptids of any sort. People seem to think abandoned commie blocks are scary but they aren't really.
No ghosts because everyone is depressed and wants to die and move on to the afterlife as soon as possible.
The only thing that's actually scary is gypsy magic and them cursing you.
