Your species is strange, so many of you live to be something else, someone different, anything but what you are. You hate your kind, spilling each other's blood but then your guilt makes you wish you weren't a part of it as a whole.

You're stuck with your genetic composition, when you embrace machines you will be a step closer to answering your question, but I doubt any of you will truly leave.

I suppose that if you were kidnapped pre-puberty and then kept locked for ~20 years with little-to-none outside interaction, then yeah, you'd involuntarily "cast away" your humanity and become semi-feral. There were many such (documented) cases.
