Can someone educate me about short wave radio? What are some frequencies to look out for? Does anyone have any good resources for learning about clandestine uses of short wave? Number stations, submarine dumps etc

Most broadcasting is done in 'shortwave'
What exactly do you want to learn?

I just know when certain frequencies light up is associated with geopolitical events and that spies have been caught with short wave radios and they're probably used to transmit secret information. I know there are people that watch the spectrum of short wave radio and try to document anomalies they find but I'm finding it a hard area to get into and learn about

Yes, that there are. You'd have more interesting time monitoring 'longwave' noise as shortwave is generally from human transmission, the are a few anomilies from natural causes though that project within the shortwave wavelength.
Are you planing to build your own receiver or just listen in over the internet?
