Anyone have any documentation on the Yeti from the Himilayas BEFORE the legend became more sensationalized by visitors and took off in the western world?

Interesting that the earlier reports of the Yeti are dark, not white. Matches the reports of Bigfoot here in North America.
why would you not assume id checked the wikepedia page first thing???????????????? kinda insulting lol. the sources all lead to nowhere basically. so useless

Cause half the time when people come here asking for info on a topic, they just wanna be spoonfed information, and hardly do any research on their own.
As far as encounters go, your best source may be the books written by early English explorers, that are mentioned on the Wiki page. Such as the one mentioned in this book; https://books.google.com/books?id=PueCAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA223#v=onepage&q&f=false
Also see the page from the archived cryptozoology.com:

Any earlier encounters would probably be written in Chinese, or whatever language people in Tibet speak, and may be difficult to find online.
You might also find it worthwhile to do some research on Tibetan mythology/folklore, and the Bön religion mentioned on the Wikipedia article.
See this story about a monk who encountered a yeti:

And this page that says they were once believed to be guardians of a hidden city:

One last thing I'll tell you is that when your checking Wikipedia on a topic from a foreign country, it can sometimes be helpful to go to the language section on the left of the page, and choose whatever the local language on the topic is, and then run that page through Google Translate. Some of it will get translated into gibberish, but you can often find info not mentioned on the English Wiki page.
Here's the Chinese page:

And here's the Nepal page:
