Wendigo is actually the name of an animal natives considered separate from the Bigfoot. In fact the notion of Wendigo syndrome is actually more of a western/modern misinterpretation of the name itself and the structure of various native people's languages.

The Wendigo, or Genoskwa (as it's refered to in the lower 48) is allegedly a separate distinct kind of Bigfoot that falls within the Type 3 category (a classification that denotes a separate evolutionary path of Bigfoot evolution with distinctly carnivorous dentition and claws instead of nails). The Gugwe is another member of the Type-3 category, virtually identical to the Wendigo save for a distinct baboon-like muzzle. Mountain Giants also fall loosely within the Type-3 classification despite their far more human-like proportions and prodigious size. All members of the Type-3 family are far more aggressive than the other types of Sasquatch and will reportedly prey upon humans. Interestingly there have been accounts of all the Type-3s occasionally wearing animal skins as clothing or carrying crude tools such a clubs or tree branches.

Natives claim that Type 1s and Type 2s don't get along with the Wendigo and no one gets along with a Gugwe. As for the Mountain Giants these are supposedly the most malicious and aggressive of any type of Bigfoot creature or Hominid.

Type-3s are typically only spotted in geologically isolated localities in the lower 48 and are more abundant in desolate regions (boulder fields, etc) further north (possibly driven from southern habitats of native Americans and white settlers given their irreconcilably predatory and aggressive nature)
