Stussy logo in the 80's and 90's that kids would draw because it made them feel like artists and it was trendy to draw it.
>>
>>18627456
It was a Stussy logo? I can't seem to find an example.

>>
>>18627456
>>18627582

it wasn't the stussy logo, this has just been debunked

they have a whole video on this, look it up, tldr it's popularity is due to the fact it's just an easy to draw symbol that looks cool

No one has ever found an example of Stussy using this symbol, and the founder of the company has even said that they never used it.

okay bud. here's the S we're talking about (1). there's the suzuki S (2). even if the suzuki S was drawn in that style, it would look like 3 or 4, depending on whether you want to keep the curves in the original logo.

my theory is that it's similar to the style used in numbering the backs of basketball jerseys and it just caught on there. maybe someone tried to draw a number 8 and fucked it up and it looked like an S? or maybe it was a retarded 2 who knows
>>
This is anecdotal, but I remember reading a story about someonr's grandparents' using the symbol on their love letters, which would place its origin significantly earlier than the 80s/90s.
I don't think there's anything inherently paranormal about the symbol, although what is interesting is its pervasiveness and longevity. It is, essentially, a really old meme. One that gained popularity without the help of the internet or any other mainstream media.
>>
>>18632983
>no one has ever found an example on Google Images
FTFY.

It's Stussy. I've seen it myself with my own eyes at what was then my local skate shop. Would have been late 80s or early 90s.

I know it's a tough concept for milennials to digest, but there's lots of pre-internet trivia you can't find on Google because nobody scanned and posted it, or it disappeared along with Geocities.
>>
>>18633124
If you draw lines on graph paper it's a pretty easy shape to come up with so I'm sure people drew it since lines were invented. Probably where Stussy got the idea.

Then you'd think it would be as easy as someone showing an example from a skating magazine or something like that. Or even something in the Stussy company's archives. But no one has ever found anything like that, and the company has consistently denied having used the symbol, even though they have no reason, and confirming it would be good advertising.

Plus, there are all the examples of people having seen it or drawn it before Stussy was even founded. It's entirely possible that some people uses that symbol to represent Stussy informally (like the people running your local skate shop), but there's absolutely no reason why evidence of Stussy using it would be impossible to find (and even denied by the company) if it actually was used. The internet has nothing to do with it; people look through paper archives for shit all the time. It's just something that's been popular forever because it's easy to draw.

Also:

>"No, this is not an original Stussy Logo," stated Emmy Coates, who has worked alongside Shawn Stussy since 1985. "I personally get asked this a lot, but people have been drawing this S long before Stussy was established. People have just assumed it was Stussy and it's sort of spread from there. It's actually quite amusing."

>I finally asked Emmy what she thought the symbol looked like. "It looks like Suzuki logo," she replied.

>>18627441

When I was a kid everyone just drew it as an angular version of an eternity symbol because it was kind of challenging to draw it symmetrically. It was the same reason we drew stars. It's just a complex geometric shape that looked cool.
