I've seen people on the few places this video is being discussed who are saying that the video is a really well done reenactment, and I'm sure some effort went into editing and recreating the set, but her actions in the video don't match what we've heard from witness at all.

I'd gotten my hopes up briefly, since I've always viewed the Chubbuck tape as the holy grail of lost footage/media. There's more hope now than there was a couple of years ago though, since the widow of the station owner confirmed she has a copy of the top locked away at a law firm.

It's not real, rather a very elaborate fake. My buddy used to record the news on Betamax every morning to watch after work. There was a timer plugged into the wall that would shut off the VCR at a certain time. He kept the tape, but the VCR broke and he never bothered finding a replacement. He told me that it was fake, as he can distinctly remember she fell over to the left, not forwards. He's kept it at his parents' house, who moved to Canada. I know it's somewhere over there, but he has looked and cannot find it.

I can confirm that this video is a fake, by my expertise in both video shooting/editing and watching fucked up suicide videos.

Not that this would matter on an anonymous image board, but I have spent my entire adult life working in the media. I've worked for news stations and the local PBS affiliate, as well as lots of freelance work (and short films and projects from college and stuff with friends). Another anon posted earlier about the after effects plugin. This is absolutely true, along with the conveniently placed audio and video messups.

Not to mention common sense says a news station wouldn't have one person on the giant set and keep their camera that zoomed out. Also, the cameras are manned, and there would be a noticeable reaction from the cam op.

The way she falls is overly dramatic for a real suicide (which sounds weird to say, but it's true). If you watch real suicide videos of gunshot wounds to the head (Like bud dwyer or that mexican in the police station or any number of other fucked up videos) you see a simple, almost ragdoll reaction of the body, as blood starts to poor from the wound, nose, mouth, etc. The force of the gun has a little jerk reaction to the head, but nothing like what's happening in this recreation.

Also, the logo on the front of the desk isn't quite like the real one was. The sun at the beginning is positioned slightly different than the original station. You can match that up with photos from the real one.

There's other little things and inconsistencies that show me that this is fake, but I can't think straight right now.

tl;dr It's fake because they did the suicide too "hollywood style", fucked up the logo on the desk, used a popular after effects plugin for the vhs look, nobody in the studio reacts in any way, etc etc etc

No. I thought of that too. Generally now, and especially in the 70's, you only record whats going through the switcher, not the isolated cameras. This is even evident in this fake because the technical director is switching to a "technical difficulties" graphic after the suicide. If this was an isolated second camera, you wouldn't see that switch. and if this was the actual original, you wouldn't see that wide 2-shot for just her speaking. It was her regular segment that was in the programming block. All camera shots are known before the live broadcast. I can think of very little reason any news station would have a shot like this. But again, that's all just minor details in the overall clear picture of this being a faked recreation. It's good for what it is, but a trained eye can spot it a mile away.

I have a weird feeling this is real. I'm an oldfag. I remember when TV looked like this, literally, it's as familiar as can be. In other words someone video'd this off an old kinescope of the shooting footage. Hoarded it, finally someone else got ahold of the old tape and uploaded it. The kinescope would've been taken from the original footage--clandestinely no doubt--before it was destroyed. That kinescope might still be out there. It would be better quality though, due to expense, whoever made it would have shot it on black and white film.

I've seen old, deteriorated professional standard video played back in recent years. (A friend of mine works at a TV station and had brought, well, sneaked, some old shit home to play it. He collected old school audio tapes, too, and old film and TV and sound equipment. He helped me transfer some reel-to-reel recordings of my late Dad reading Shakespeare onto digital media.) This is totally consistent with how that stuff looked.

At about 7 minutes 41 seconds there's a shot of the set minutes after she killed herself, with a coworker presumably looking down at her body behind the desk. It's identical to what we see here. Also, if you watch the whole thing, there's a brief sequence of the real Christine interviewing someone on air. Her real voice sounds like the voice on this recording, albeit with the distortion it's hard to be sure. But it's not inconsistent at all.

It's not real. Nationsquid does a lot of pretty elaborate and convincing editing work, Chubbuck footage included.

He hasn't responded to any questions about the footage so far, so technically we don't have a ~definitive~ answer, but all signs point to an excellent reenactment.

Someone from the nationsquid forums went frame by frame to compare the tape posted to eyewitness accounts and known photos of the set. I'll dump the grabbed frames here if anyone's interested.

Something interesting to note is a lot of people seem to remember it existing on the internet YEARS ago, and while this could be attributed to the fact that there were a lot of similar videos floating around in the 90s, this very well could be surfacing now because of that.

I know this will sound like roleplay, but it`s a serious issue.

Since I saw Christine, I`ve liked her. I wanted to hug her, I wanted to pet her. She's so cute.

But when I actually started reading more about her, and I saw that she's a girl in need of help, that kicked my true obsession. I wanted to protect her. A relationship of mutual benefit, a nobody taking protection and an empowered nobody offering protection.

Yet I know that it`ll never happen, because she's dead and this reality sucks.

This isn`t enough for me. Every night, I dream about Chris. Today I broke down and started crying. I wished I could`ve slept more to dream about her.

I often dream about people mocking me for my appearance. But since I've found Christine, that stopped happening. Because I'm protecting hef. I finally have the courage to tell people to fuck off, to beat them up, to defend myself. I dream about doing crazy things that I wouldn't before. All for the sake of me and Chris. It gave me the self esteem that I lacked.

I`ve started researching on how to give myself a coma so I could dream more about her. Even if it`s just dreams, being with her would make me happy.
