Discuss the Mandela Effect and post any new ones that you discover.
What is the Mandela Effect?
The Mandela Effect is a collective misremembering of a fact or event. Various theories have been proposed to explain what causes it, some more sensible than others.
>>
Mandela Effects so far-
Mandela: many people feeling certain they could remember Nelson Mandela dying while he was still in prison back in the ’80s. Contrary to what many thought, Mandela’s actual death was on Dec. 5, 2013, despite some people claiming to remember seeing clips of his funeral on TV.
Oscar Meyer/Mayer: In actuality, the famous brand of hot dogs and lunch meats is Oscar Mayer, but people have grown frustrated because they remember it as Meyer, with an “e.” A lot of people recall the jingle from the commercials and insist the lyrics were “My bologna has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R / My bologna has a second name, it’s M-A-Y-E-R!” Still, somehow, it’s actually Mayer, though many people think that’s the real bologna here.
Sex in/and the city: It’s Sex and the City, but many people insist they remember it being “in the” at some point. Some people have even posted pictures of old memorabilia they have that supports their false memory.
We are the champions: youtube.com
Many of those familiar with the song remember the final lyrics being “No time for losers, ’cause we are the champions…of the world!” Guess what? There is no “of the world!” The song just ends, and it’s driving people crazy because they feel 100% sure that they’ve heard otherwise in the past.
Pikachu's tail: People remember there being a black mark on Pikachu’s tail, but if you take a look at Pikachu now, you’ll see nothing there. How so many people can remember an aspect of this character’s appearance that doesn’t actually exist, the world may never know.
Berenstein/Berenstain bears: This is one of the more popular Mandela effect debates, in which some people seem to recall the book series/cartoon about a family of bears being known as The Berenstein Bears. However, if you look now, they’re actually called The Berenstain Bears. Many folks insist they remember it being spelled with an “e,”

Update: More Mandela Effects found:
Life is/was like a box of chocolates: t seems that the majority of people confidently remember Forrest Gump stating that his mama always said, “Life is like a box of chocolates.” Well, it turns out that he actually said, “Life was like a box of chocolates,” despite what you may’ve felt you distinctly remembered.
Kit-Kat/KitKat: Some people seem to remember there being a dash in Kit Kat, making it “Kit-Kat,” but there isn’t one, and that frustrates them because they’re sure that once upon a time, there was one.
The Mona Lisa smile: A lot of folks passionately insist that the Mona Lisa has changed, because they remember her having a straight face, but now they feel it seems as if she’s got a smirk.
It's a beautiful day in the/this neighborhood: During the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood intro, he’d sing a little jingle that many people remember beginning with the line, “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.” That’s not what it was, though — instead, he clearly states, “It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,” which just doesn’t sound right to those who feel like they know the correct wording without a shadow of a doubt.
Luke, I am your father/No, I am your father: youtube.com
“Luke, I am your father” is one of the most famous phrases from film, but many are discovering that it’s not what Darth Vader said. He actually says, “No, I am your father.” So, is this just a misremembered movie line or did some otherworldly shenanigans take place? This isn’t the only Star Wars–related Mandela effect instance…
>>
Probably confabulation on entire populations brainwashing by using haarp as a delivery system. Anyways this isn't the most popular theory. CERN opened a portal into multiple other dimensions and now the dimensions are leaking into each other. We really entered the twighlight zone in this one.

The Pikachu one too had me google search it cause i'm still doubting it... for some reasons, i'm pretty sure i remember seeing a bit of black at the tip of it's tail but my memory about it is pretty foggy

There are a handful of books from back when the ANC were a terrorist group in the eyes of the US that printed shit about Mandela having died. Fiona Broome probably read one of these or sonething, but is so insulated from reality that she never got it corrected.

The only suspicious thing is that it's blown up when political spin has been rebranded to fake news.

Isn't it a little frightening, when you know something they don't. Isn't is maddening, when what we call the world doesn't know God. Doesn't it make you tremble, and knowing God first make you fear? Fear not.

Isn't it a whirlwind of sadness and grief, when you've seen Heaven, and even the Christ, and yet I sin, and know that others don't know God yet then I sin in life. As we all.

The day will come soon, when He shall say to sin Stop. And sin halted, and could not move as a tree rooted in the ground. It did not move and was cast into ever lasting fire.

Those that believed in Him were saved.
Duality torn, so only Good remains.

God, I pray in Jesus name, that verily I eagerly wait, for the return and saving of this earth. When the day comes that the Heaven and Earth become one, clean from sin. I pray, because as you taught us to pray for our enemies in life as sinners, I'll also pray for the world, who I am no friend of.

Lord, God, I pray in Jesus name, for this world of sin we live in. I pray, that as I know you will, eagerly may sin be removed, departed far from all those in your will, and may thy will be done, in earth as it is in Heaven, and may I see the glorious Christ return, with the angels above, so that your will be magnified. Amen.

Mandalino Affect doesn't exist. It's your false memory and your brain's tendency to fill in the blanks.
>Many people incorrectly remember the name of the series as the "Berenstein Bears". This confusion has generated multiple humorous theories to explain the memories, including an unannounced name change, time travel, or parallel universes and has been described as an instance of the Mandela effect.[97][98][99][100]
>According to Stan Berenstain's son, confusion over the name has existed since his father's childhood, when a teacher insisted that the name was spelled "Berenstein" due to the prevalence of names ending in "stein".[101]

There are forty eight states nation wide, and two outside of the United States, totaling 50 states.

Also, Obama mentions 57 states in his campaign trail.

Some stuff people consider to be Mandela effects are not Mandela effects, it's just common misremembering shit. That being said I do believe there is some legitimacy to the Mandela effect, I just think it's being polluted by stuff that isn't. For example Rubik's cube has always been Rubik's cube, but it's common for people to refer to it as Rubix. It's like spelling socks as sox. There were never 52 states, it's common knowledge that there are 50. People who believe they remember 52 is due to the result of counting Hawaii and Alaska as extra's, thinking there are 50 on mainland and then Hawaii and Alaska is 52. That's a result of misunderstanding geography as a kid. I recall several classmates of mine back in the day thinking the same.

But that's not to say there isn't some truth to the Mandela effect. Try and think of stuff in your personal life or environment growing up that seem out of place or that you remember differently.

I remember there being a Whataburger here in my home state of Oregon only to find out recently that there has never been a whataburger fast food joint in my state. Closest is in Arizona, yet I have a perfect memory of a whataburger off a main road and I recall passing by it from time to time. I even remember the town it was in, but when going by there now the whataburger is no longer there. There's no way I have my memories confused because I've lived in Oregon all my life. In fact I've never even visited a state that apparently has whataburger so it's impossible for to have any memory of the place anywhere else, but I remember it as bright as day. I even recall a friend of mine talking about the place back then so I know it's not just in my head. Anyone else have a similar experience?
>>
>>18605193
Never listened to his music, actually. If you even want to call it "music", that is. Definitely recall 52 states, though.
>>
The Mandela effect can be explained quickly. It's fake and dumb. Not a phenomenon. Just a notable historical event that people remember differently just like Any Event That Ever Occurred.
>>
>>18605198

There's also the common "51st State" trope that is often expanded to a 52nd State when talking about somewhere that is heavily in the US sphere of influence but not as much as some other country. For example, Germany could be the 51st State and Austria the 52nd, or Israel the 51st and Egypt the 52nd etc etc

Most cases of the Mandela effect can be attribute to conversion disorder and false memories in general. When you remember something you aren't actually remembering the subject itself but rather you're remembering the last time you remembered it, and every time you try to recall something your brain has to try and rebuild the memory in your head again, which can easily result in memories being reconstructed with false aspects, especially when there are loads of other people passing on the corrupted memories. It's like a glitch that spreads from one brain to another very easily because the differences between the false memories and the real ones are very minor, making it hard to tell which is which. Some of the instances can be written off because people are just remembering the way something was spoken rather than how it was actually written as with sex and the city. Most people remember it as sex in the city because when speaking the words sex and the city you pronounce the and like n' or &.

Tl;Dr Your brains are all wrong but it's not your fault.

Mandela Effect is silly. Some of the stuff does bother me, though.

Chick-fil-a is a big one. It was one of my favorite food joints as a kid, and I don't know why myself and so many others would remember it being spelled incorrectly.

The Sinbad Genie movie thing is maybe the biggest one for me. I would've sworn I saw commercials for it on Disney Channel in the mid '90s. After hearing he did do a Sinbad the Sailor marathon, though. I think that's probably where I and so many other people get it from.

Pikachu's tail, Staples logo, Froot Loops, the Thinker, and South America's position bother me too, but I can see those just being things I misremember too.

A lot of it is just dumb, though. I remember having the Berenstain Bears revelation like fifteen years ago.

TL;DR: It's bad memory. I love it, though. All the videos about Satan being released by CERN's particle collider are hilarious.

I don't know/care about the rest, but I know for a fucking FACT that "Sex *and* the City" has always been the correct name of the show.

From 2001 to 2008 I worked in TV Azteca, a Mexican multimedia company, we'd been trying to get the rights to air it in Mexico since late 2000 and when we finally did we came with a little localization problem: you see the title "Sex and The City" doesn't make a lot of sense in Spanish, so what we (and the Spaniards) had to do was change it to "Sex IN the City" ("Sexo en la Ciudad").

The title probably doesn't make much sense in English either, so I guess people just thought it was "in" instead of "and", and when confronted with the reality, some weirdos convinced themselves that a crazy conspiracy was happening, but no, I can assure you that that's not the case, at least not as far as SATC goes.

They wouldn't be disregarding the fact that the events occurred, because they wouldn't have occurred if we were to assume the phenomenon is real. Thus:

>Mandela's death broadcast
>Anon goes about his life as usual
>Whatever event triggers phenomenon
>Anon wakes unknowing of arriving in entirely separate but quite similar reality
>Mandela dies --again, seemingly, prompting confision from anon.

Not saying it's a genuine effect. I have very clear memories that contradict reality, the vicid sort of ones which cannot possibly be the product of imagination. And yet, they're still just neurons reproducing a general picture of an event I witnessed years or even decades back. Hell, I can remember clear as day when I was five years old and witnessed a six-foot bee fly by me when I played outside. I can remember seeing a girl walking in our home's hallway that everyone said was dead. I can remember any number of things that were either the product of poor memory at the time, or embellishment and erosion as the years have gone on.

These days, it's not the things I remember incorrectly that terrify me, it is the things I do not. I cannot remember any of my high school years, and I'm not even thirty. I can't remember my pet dog I had as a small boy, even though I loved her. It is terrifying to acknowledge that the boy and even man I once was is no more, soon not even in my memories.

people just don't really pay attention or just mix up things as a kid. Lots of the heart thing is connected to how lots of people of all ages were taught how to do mouth to mouth and pumping of the heart. I was taught to do the pumps slightly to the left (mostly shown easily to those watching as someone does it on one of those dummies) to prevent more cases of fractures of the chest cavity. It can still happen but compressing really hard (by those that panic) is less stressful on the bone above the heart if you just move your hands a bit to the side..thus over time people just think the heart is on the side

Yeah this one I've got to agree with.

Same with Stop and Shop and Giant. Annoyingly the rewards cards aren't cross compatable even though they have the exact same terms. I checked once when I visited dellaware and my stop and shop didn't work.

But yeah, pikachu's tail still bothers me.

I wasn't even aware of a few of the ones brought up in this thread until now.. I gotta be honest, as someone who has never put much stock in this, I am genuinely a bit creeped out. Most of them have easy explanations, but a few are things that I (and countless others obviously) are 100% sure of. Not sure what to think truthfully.
>>
>>18601699
This would be accurate if a few of the more popular ones weren't "misremembered" on such a massive scale. I am more of a realist in general, but even a realist must admit it's a bit creepy. Seems a bit too big to be a total coincidence

People saying it was "always in the middle" are trying to appear smart.

The heart was always slight to the left (apice area). It's why the left lung is smaller, to accommodate the heart.

definitely a real phenomenon. it gets weird when you notice a glitch flip back to what ppl remember but with new changes within said change being tracked. this is followed with a new wave of poeple experiencing this effect freaking out on the internet. it has fingerprints of dimension slipping all over it and certain recent happenings could be realated. at this point its hard to consider this as gaslighting/psyops
>>
...weird. was just reading about the ME somewhere else, when I looked here this was the top post.

Anyway, at the top of my head I can think of these:

- Mickey Mouses' pants are different; they have no more straps and are dran more 'straight' (the old pants were more form fitting)
Aldo the buttons on the front are now white instead of yellow

- Donald Ducks buttons on his jacket changed from 4 to 2 and then none

- the x-box logo has no dash, its now integrated into the 'b' of 'box'

- Great Britan as a whole is way closer to France than it was

- Ukraine is way bigger and more south

Maybe I'll think of a few more later...

People just remember, just because you remember something a certain way doesn't mean you're remembering something from this exact reality. If the Mandela effect has any explanation, it's that different dimensions where minute little things are slightly different are somehow becoming entangled. How this is happening has a few explanations (including the LRC), but what most of us can agree on is that this widespread misremembering is too coincidental to be some sort of internet ruse.

You guys remember the James Bond movie Moonraker? He goes into space and there's a shuttle and all that junk. Anyway the villain's henchman is Jaws, who you'll remember is a huge guy with fearsome metal teeth that he uses to bite through metal and other stuff.
And maybe you also remember that Jaws meets a girl, Dolly, they fall in love and switch sides to help Bond. She's dorky, very small and has glasses and pigtails. But why do her and Jaws fall in love at first sight? Because she has braces, right? They're both ostracized for their weird teeth.

SHE NEVER HAD BRACES

a lot of people remember the same thing.

Casablanca the line "play it again Sam" is never said

Silence of the lambs Hannibal never actually said "Hello clarice" when he met her

Some personal ones I'm trying to find more people who remember:
My father and I distinctly remember the original "The Fly" being in black and white. No we weren't watching on an old tv. No it wasn't the sequel.

Spyro the Dragon: I distinctly remember specific tv spots that apparently don't exist

Aristocats: I distinctly remember a sequel being released but only just recently found out it was cancelled before released.

I never saw the animatronic sheep spots growing up, only this one ad played multiple times where he was walking around this cave with rocks falling all around him. I remember it since its what made me beg my parents to get me the game and it couldn't have been for the sequels since it was long before the sequels came out. I've only met a small handful of people who remember it the way I do, but then again there aren't many people still talking about the purple guy today.
>>
'Mandela Effect' is a horrible name for this phenomenon. I have not heard of a single person from South Africa who thought Mandela died in the 80s.

Just as I have not heard of a single Italian person who remembers Italy to look different than it looks today. These examples are cases of bad memory/education imo.

I also think that some of the wrong movie quotes (Star Wars, Forest Gump) might just be the result of pop culture. People put 'Luke' in the star wars quote as a reference when making a joke so that

people instantly get what they are talking about. The Forrest Gump quote simply sounds better than the one in the movie.

Now I'm not saying that the wrong movie quotes are not a result of the Mandela Effect, but that they are questionable examples.

The ones that I really believe in are the logos and some of the spelling changes.

Both, the new Kit-Kat and the VW logo do not look right to me. I remember specifically the day that I realized the VW logo shows a 'V' and a 'W' and I remember specifically that there was no gap between the letters.

The most interesting to me is Chic-fil-A since the version that Mandela people remember was spelled wrong the first place.

Why would people specifically remember that it was spelled wrong (without k) if it never was?

Anyone notice time is going by quicker? when I count to 10 with closed eyes 13 secods go by on my clock.

I used to be spot on when I count "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi". Now it hardly fits into a second.
>>

No one can be a saint when they're still alive. Canonization happens after death and it takes years.

Everyone acted like she was already a saint because how the media portrayed her. In reality she saw suffering as a gift from God and believed the poor and sick deserved what happened to them.

It's word-play. Both words are intentionally spelled wrong. "looney" is originally spelt luny or (lunatic/lunacy) and toons (short for cartoon) is tunes. They sort of make a anagram by switching up the vowels to make it even more luny.

Luny Toons = Looney Tunes

Just wordplay, no mandela effect.
