I've been reading a lot of books by Lovecraft and now more than ever have I started noticing the subtle nods to said books, my favorite being warhammers chaos gods.

are you literally asking about the warhammer chaos gods or just the trickster archetype?

Double sided coin type, they're both horrible evil omnipresent beings that also have a good side. Like the lore states they're the culmination of every sentient being thoughts and emotions. Could something similar be the case for us?

God I suck at wording stuff.

whoa, thanks for not answering my question in favor of an un asked for exposition.

I try my best.
To answer the question the gods themselves, and what they are.
(Sorry for not doing that tho I've been having trouble focusing lately)

Any pantheon gives you about the same things.
The difference is that in Lovecraft's work they were gods because we couldn't understand them in any other sense. They were beyond human comprehension. The best we could do is label them as vastly superhuman and cower in awe.
Then Derleth came along and fanfictioned them into a more traditional mold of what gods are, and since people could work with that it stuck. That turns Cthulhu into a green Diablo with facetacles, a final boss that (assuming you've levelled up enough) you can not only fight but defeat. And that's what you've got in Warhammer. They're knowable and fightable, it just takes closing the immense power gap between you and them.

My opinion is that Warhammer threads go in /tg/
