From what I know about the recent wide-spread entrance of magic into the public consciousness, I had the idea that ASMR could possibly be a popularization of white magic, much like electronic/instantaneous mass communication has led to a wide spread adoption of other types of magic.

No it's not.

Basically it's when your senses are lulled into a semi trance state that is triggered by different things. Someone paying you undivided attention, pleasant sounds, a certain voice. I am triggered by a bunch of things but the sound of stirring something like melted chocolate with a wooden spoon in a plastic bucket is nirvana. The triggers basically literally make your brain spasm creating the famous tingle feeling.

Well that's basically another way of describing it. If magic is efficacious at all then you could of course describe it by its (biological) effects or by its causes. There are ASMR people who are intentionally trying to use ASMR to heal people with this effect. What would be an example of white magic if not this?

When ASMR got to be mainstream it got co-opted by the lowest common denominator (sex), but there's nothing about ASMR that's inherently pornographic. My first experience with ASMR was in 1st grade watching the girl sitting next to me color.
