Trans-humanism doesn't necessarily mean going the cybernetics route. There's a lot of sci-fi centering around biotechnology.

Creating super soldiers like Astartes (40K space marines), human hives where people have drastically different bodies according to their caste (with or without the hive mind) altering bodies to adapt to the needs of colonizing other worlds, etc.

Trans-humanism / futurology / singularitarianism is nothing more than theism for science-worshipping atheists.
