This. It's fucking terrifying. Happened to me when experimenting with lucid dreaming. Very uncomfortable and nothing you can do but try and recognize when it's happening,look for shit that seems out of place or non existent in your room, close your eyes and try to wake up. Not sure what it is with this shit, maybe a meme that just took in some people's brains.

out of the corner of your eye? get your eyes checked. sometimes when your brain has problems fixing motion blur from your eyes there are blank spaces.

There was one or two in my old house. They are not good as far as I've experienced. In my case it wasn't sleep paralysis. I saw them on several occasions while fully awake in the day.

The way I solved it was by moving.

I personally mever saw them outside dreams, but many people can.
They act like any other astral presence. They warp the reality around your dream and try to do what they want, which in their case is leaving you drained.
