i suppose first copy the message in whatever format you recieved it in, multiple times over using different formats that can be compared to one another, in case years have to pass and potential degradation ocurrs. multiple copy formats would offer different degradation patterns. ie if it's an audio message, make recordings of it on casette tape, cd, mp3, ogg, vinyl record.
