Alright you crazy flatearthers and magicians, what scary movie made /x/ cringe and shiver the most, what kept you up at night for weeks? Tell me bois, I demand to know.
>>
Either the first ring with that hella scary face, or peewees big adventure
>>
None to this day but bump for interest

Also unrelated but when 13 yo me discovered creepypastas that kept me some nights awake
>>
Sinister
>>
>>18550540
I think for me it was The Crazies, just because the concept scares the fuck out of me, or this new movie Oujia: The Origin of Evil because the facial distortion with the girl's mouth and eyes just make me extremely uncomfortable.
>>
>>18550547
I like watching that movie, but the ending blows dick
>>
>>18550544
Yea, I sometimes check out Creepypasta just to see whats going on with it, I find the stuff with abombinations or cryptid creatures, or unknown phenomenon scare me the most, good examples are
Abandoned By Disney/Room Zero (gave me goosebumps)
The Horror From The Vault (fucking beautifully written and amazingly done, perfect in every way basically.)
The Art of Jacob Emery (very original and well written0
The Melancholy of Herbert Solomon (heartwarming and very well written, a delight to read)
I could go on forever lol, I binge listen to MCP all the time.
>>
Saw Lovely Molly a couple years ago, still gives me the chills. The Fourth Kind made me really uneasy. It Follows was pretty good.
>>
Abandoned by Disney was one of the first ones I've read, and it really got to me at the time

I just can't feel scared when watching movies, idk why. There are only some games and written stories that legitimately creep me out.

>>18550603
Did you ever see its sequel, Room Zero? It capitalizes on the fucked up by doubling down, instead of a revist like most Creepypasta sequels, it goes even deeper, including disturbing rumors and stories from around the park, the last of which is so utterly horrifying it will give you goosebumps all up and down your arms and legs, at least it did for me.
>>
>>18550551
the crazies is awesome. the original and the remake. better than romero's zombie flicks.
>>
>>18550677
Yea, the concept is amazingly well done and puts such a suspenseful and awesome twist on regular Zombie-style movies. The fact your own mother could disembowel you and you'd never even know the thought entered her mind is what truly terrified me about it. Original writers should be praised for such a uniquely terrifying but simple concept.
>>
>>18550589
Lovely Molly was good.

>>18550528

The watcher is on Netflix and I really enjoied it also. Only one jump scare entire movie.

no movie is actually scary.

The Descent is the best modern horror movie though
>>
>>18551207
>The descent is the best modern horror movie

REALLY. I thought it was low budget because the entire movie took place in a dark cave. BORING.
>>
Hellraiser 2
>>
>>18551238
I thought it was shit because it was shit.

Actually, that's a lie, it was ALMOST good. But for a horror movie, almost good is worse than laughably bad.
>>
>>18551471
That scene still creeps me the fuck out. Signs has some of the best camera and effects usage of a modern film. The jump scares are there but they don't serve just to make you jump, they make you squirm.
Too bad you need a fan theory to make the ending make sense.
>>
>>18550567

Absolutely. The first half is awesome, but once they reveal what they're dealing with it goes from really interesting, unique horror story to rehashed, recycled horse shit that I've seen a million times.
>>
>>18551471

That part legit creeped me out as a kid. Watched it a couple years ago and it just looked goofy. It's really amazing how that movie managea to make absolutely zero sense.
>>
>>18551207

Wow that's a funny way to spell The Thing
>>
>>18551493
I don't even mind how cliche the second half is, it's that last scene that really annoys me. It's such an obvious, cheese dick thing to do.
>>
>>18551501
First scene I ever saw was the defibrilator scene. Nearly fucking puked.
>>

>>
>>18550606

>>
The Evil Dead remake is fairly difficult to watch
>>
>>18550528
The martyrs. It has a lot of spookem creepy shit and "monster" design that's a little reminiscent of silent hill, but what got me was the general lingering idea that you were left with when it was all finished. Shit gave me my first existential crisis as a kid (12?)
>>
>>18551776
Yeah it was pretty hard to watch, but it was tantamount to torture porn, imo. Also, the abomination was like, ridiculously easy to kill. The fuck would've happened if it actually made it away from the cabin? Some redneck would've probably just blew its head off anyway. Tl;dr the fuck, Satan?
>>
Last movie that scared me was 13 Ghosts and it's not even scary. But back in 2002 I remember renting it on VHS with a friend, who lived on the fucking outskirts of the city. We watched it and I had to walk all the way back home through this fucking creepy as trail, at night to get to my neighbourhood.

That's it I think, other than some cheap jump scares which I expect and yet get spooked I don't think I've gotten scared since then.
>>
>>18550571
If you like cryptid creatures the original/one of the first Goatman stories (aka Anansi's Goatman story iirc) is really good.

Psychosis is also one of the best creepypastas ever written. Paranoia at its finest.
>>
A Serbian Film might be the only movie that's ever genuinely shook me up.

SalĂł (120 Days of Sodom) is quite disturbing too but also a masterfully made film, highly recommend it.
>>
>>18550528
The devils advocate
There was a scene where the black chicks face morphs
I didn't see it coming and left me scared shitless
>>
>>18551501
The Thing for me feels like Cringe Horror, and you all know what I'm talking about when I say this, just horror movies that throw a lot of needlessly gross and disturbing imagery at you to make you uncomfortable rather than use suspense and plot. Its lazy writing and I find it very dumb. I haven't watched the whole movie before just because that kind of shit pisses me off, also why I haven't bothered even looking up A Serbian Film.
>>
>>18551679
Ghost movies all kinda blend together, Conjuring was the one with the witch, right?
>>
>>18551835
Seen them both, and I gotta say I liked them both very well, Psychosis is a very good story but it seems like it takes too long to get to a rather unsatisfying ending. I guess its probably more scary to people who have paranoia disorders.
>>
>>18552349
>>18553380
I never watch Serbian for the reasons listed on my other post, I just don't like desperate cringe in horror movies, it feels lazy.

>>
>>18553380
>just horror movies that throw a lot of needlessly gross and disturbing imagery at you to make you uncomfortable rather than use suspense and plot

The horror doesn't come from the gross shit, it comes from the sense of paranoia and loneliness of the Antarctic environment, anon.
>>
>>18553610
Ehhhh... alright I'll give it a chance. Remake or original?
>>
>>18552354
Yea, just saw the scene. Creepy for sure but, I don't know what the buildup for that was, it seemed pretty random.
Sure her character seems like a corrupt, crazy bitch but I mean... where did that come from? The only shit I could think of was that thing about New York being a place of sin that Keanu's mom talked about. Right now it just feels like a drama. Its still in the first half though so I don't know really.
>>
>>18553681
The 1982 film. It is gory but the gore works with the horror, rather than being the only scary thing in the film.

It's not the first adaption of the short story but it's not a remake. Avoid the 2011 remake, it really doesn't get what made the original work and just doubles down on the gore.

The 1951 Thing From Another World is also a pretty good work. Very little gore at all in that.
>>
>>18553380
If you think The Thing doesn't have suspense, there's something seriously wrong with you. Also, while I agree Serbian Film goes a bit over the top with the gore and gross stuff and I know it it isn't for everyone, that shit is there just for shock effect. The horror comes instead from the idea that these awful, disgusting things are happening right under our noses and there's nothing you can do to stop it, the people will get away with it and it will go on forever.

Maybe you should watch a movie BEFORE you give your critique on it?

I've been on /b/, I've seen the rekt threads, I know people die in horrible ways, everyone does, I know it happens under my nose, and yea it sucks, but it doesn't make a movie. The idea that an entire movie can just be like: "GORE, GORE, HUMANITY IS FUCKED, GORE" like, seriously I know, I don't need to hear it, anyone whos been on the internet for any amount of time knows, for me its the same as The Human Centipede, it just wants to be edgy and tries way too hard.
>>

Jeepers Creepers. I watched it back in when it was first released, which was at a drive-in theater. It reminded me of the jersey-devil/mothman which my parents constantly talked about, because they loved cryptozoology stuff.

>>
>>18550677

>>
>>18554353

It is. It's also virtually the exact same scenario. A few exceptions to that are: there's one female, most of the characters speak Norwegian, I think there's a few more people on the Norwegian base, there's no black guys. That's about it.
>>
>>18550571

>>
>>18550567

>>
>>18554455

What a bunch of millenials in this thread.
Modern "ghosts" and "zombie" films are not scary, your taste is shit.

ACTUAL SCARY MOVIES
>texas chainsaw massacre
>nosferatu
>dr caligari
>the pughkeepsie tapes
>blair witch proyect

NOT SCARY BUT GREAT MOVIES
>the exorcist
>alien
>saw
>the collector
>silence of the lambs
>28 days saga

Gore is not scary. Ghost are not scary if you're over 15. Avoid jumpscares and cliches, they're not worth your time.
>>
>>18554703
Forgot to mention, in the zombie area:
>Night of the Living Dead (original)
>The Return of the Living Dead
>Planet Terror
>Diary of the Dead
All great films. Not scary tho.
>>
>>18551776
I really enjoyed the remake. Obviously it wasn't going to for the campy vibe the first one had though. Same writer and director i believe, they just decided to go full torture porn. That being said, the cinematography, acting and effects were great. Oh and that opening scene was genuis.
>>
>>18554726
>Same writer and director
Neither are Sam Raimi
>>
>>18554714

>>18553939
Serbian Film was definitely not good at all. But I really do think The Thing is worth your time. Sure, it's known for it's gore, but I think the movie gives plenty in terms of suspense and plot. It might not be the best plot ever conceived, but it definitely has a lot more to offer than most of the modern Horror Genre.
>>
No horror movie has ever truly scared me, but I was screaming during that gloriously low-budget film Upstream Color. My wife spent a good portion of the movie covering her eyes and asking me whether it was "safe" yet.

The Tunnel has great suspense, and great atmosphere. No movies scare me, but when I'm forced to think of one that might be creepy it's this.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1735485/
>>
I personally thought the Conjuring was really quite spooky, though it got to be a bit too full of cheap horror towards the end.

Honestly, I'd like to see a modern horror flick that wasn't filled with jumpscares. I know somebody posted one in this thread, but it just kinda sucks to know that every single scary movie trailer you see is advertising a movie that sets you up and then says "boo."
>>
>>18555800
The first Insidious made me very uncomfortable, mainly the scene with the family, in the ghost world. Something about the way they smile is haunting.
>>
>>18553939
Definitely check out The Thing. It's horror is way more than just the puppet gore. While it's a part of the horror, the movie builds a really neat mythology and draws heavily on not knowing who you can trust coupled with extreme isolationism.

The whole docu-horror of the Fourth Kind was lost on me from almost the beginning of the movie. I lived in Alaska at that point and Nome is nothing like what they show in the movie.
>>
>>18550528
In all my life? The Blair Witch Project. Truly fucked up my sleep for three days. I recall being solidly freaked by Evil Dead 2 (only when I was older did I find it hilarious). That 2006 SyFy Channel (back when it was Sci-Fi Channel) movie Abominable also made me scared of cabins, woods, and getting near the bathroom window for a little while. Cannibal Holocaust didn't so much scare me as disturb me.

When I was younger, though, my entire childhood up until about 8th grade I was constantly scared of monsters and ghosts at nighttime. It probably didn't help that I was anxious and on ADD meds in waking life.

Nowadays, only certain parts of movies scare me. Ones that I can remember:
The basement scene of The Innkeepers (actually made me fairly nervous)
"The Drop of Water" segment from Black Sunday
The camera footage scene from Lake Mungo
The fetus scene from Noroi

1408 also made me uneasy, never knowing what would happen next.

Different anon. Every girl I've had a sexual relationship with (four total) has been into being dominated and physically used/abused to some degree.
Current girl likes to be spanked, tied/held down, blindfolded, and told exactly what to do/"forced" into doing whatever I want.
The girl before that insisted on being choked/restrained and being forceful in general. Foreplay was basically her wanting me to throw her around a bit. Nothing too violent though. Etc.
Based on my relatively small sample size, it's accurate.

Rape scenes use to make be cringe as well.
>>
>>18559011
Yea unlike most Horror movies, the people on screen dealing with the madness are actual characters you care about, and the way the infected act always being a little different made it fun, you know when you saw a non-violent infected and they just set a creepy atmosphere more.
Theres also just scenes that make you shudder, like the gas station fight or the pitchfork scene.
Really good shit.

Here's a classic.

The Ring.

Most of these movies aren't really that scary, which makes me wonder:
What makes a movie truly scary?

If you have a specific fear or phobia that a movie caters to, then obviously that movie will scare you.

For me, it's movies that catch you off guard. The best time to watch horror movies isn't just at night or in the dark, but when you're watching a horror movie that you've never seen before and aren't expecting anything from. And I don't just mean jumpscares, I mean anything that suddenly sends shivers down your spine and makes your hair stand on end. A trick of the light, a terrifying face, a sudden camera angle shift, a drop in audio tone, ghostly moaning... Atmosphere is very important as well.

Also, most people remember the eyes. Eyes are how we do most of our non-verbal communication. Anything with large, bulging eyes, a penetrating gaze, always-watchful sunglasses, or even the absence of eyes is what sticks with people after the scare. I'm sure you can recall at least one thing that has scared you from your childhood that had to do with the eyes.

Serbian film is literally shit tier garbage made for edgelords who want to seem fucked up for memes. It was an hour and a half of mindless gore and the most horrible shit they could legally make into a film. Boring as all fuck too

My favorite "horror" films of all time are "The Martyrs" (Romanian) and "yellowbrickroad".

"yellowbrickroad" makes use of sound cues like static and your ears ringing and at the very end exactly as the screen went to black and the credits rolled my alarm went off. The alarm was set to the radio and was really freaking loud and wasn't picking up the station very well. One of the few times in my life where I was legitimately scared.

Suspension of disbelief. Lovecraft. The occult/unknown. That which cannot be known, or to a greater degree, understood by man. Witnessing something you were never meant to see.

Of course there are visual cue's and tropes that effectively scare viewers as well, but they're designed to do so. They're usually superficial tactics, but they accomplish what they're meant to do. Typically by overloading the senses without warning, or even a sort of hypnotization to make the viewer more open to suggestion.

Make people believe. That's all. It's why different movies scare different people. It doesn't even have to be a typical horror film.

Just watched Maniac last night. Pretty cool and creepy. I like that it was shot mostly in POV. That girl with the tats that Frodo's character went on that date with... HNNNNNNNNNGGG she could get the dick.

They were supposedly going to remake it, but I don't think it ever went anywhere.

We need more movies about ghost rape.
