It's been said before and I'll say it again, watching the video makes people empathize with the girl and gets people personally involved. You don't see most suicides. You definitely don't see child suicides, in fact, this could literally be the only video of one in existence.

You're already more emotionally invested with this girl than 99% of deaths just from having watched it. you see her sadness and it's hard not to feel anything for her. I think it would be like this for anyone else as well if we had gotten a first handed peak at them while they're alive, the suicide act, and the aftermath.
