Human's have the capacity to run short simple simulations of events in their head in order to avoid negative outcomes in the future.

Some of these simulations involve talking with other people. (You see where I'm going with this)

It is possible to split your personality in order to have it communicate with itself. This is a terrible idea and should never be done by anyone.

humans have a capability of imagination, what they call "seeing with the Mind's eye". for example, imagine a cup. you now see a cup in your mind's eye. anyone can do this.
what changes is that someone imagines, say, a character instead, and purposes to assign a history/sequentiality to them when it's just the imagination exercise (what's funny is my tulpa seems to disagree when I tell them this theory)

A mental process used to meditate, focus, or make decisions, by creating a consistent personality archetype and talking to it. For example, a lethargic person might make a tulpa full of energy, then talk to them whenever they need encouragement.
