I think Tulpas have potential for making you better at things. Build a Tulpa on a physical object. For example, make a ring into a Tulpa who loves learning and teaching, and use it to learn your material and repeat it back to you in the test. It works because it is your subconscious processes that store the memories. With a Tulpa, you can direct your subconscious to an extent that is difficult to impossible without supernatural aid.

Putting Tulpas onto a physical object is much easier than doing it with pure mental visualization. It is much easier to hear things than see things in these processes. With the object as the tulpas body, no visualization is necessary. Telepathic communication with your tulpa is trivially easy. If you were a sadist you could make an Onahole into a Tulpa that hated being used.

Every few days some guy posts "REMINDER NOT TO MAKE A TULPA" with the tulpa screencap of the schizophrenic guy with the giantess fetish. If I were you, I wouldn't even bother with it. It's just a hallucination, the origins of it are in Tibetan Buddhism. The senior monks would tell their apprentices that the tulpa was a deity, but this was merely a process to ween out unworthy monks and those who would move on to further enlightenment were supposed to realize that it was merely a hallucination and move on.

Buddhists have a decent metaphysics but draw the wrong conclusion. In the Buddhist system, the thing to do is find a level of being you are comfortable being in and get into a holding pattern, being just enlightened enough to get reincarnated as the same class. As a Catholic, I'm not an authority on Buddhism. But that idea of getting into a balanced holding pattern doesn't seem unreasonable. If someone doesn't want a "promotion" of sorts, then why should they seek it? Though, I think the point about Tibetan Buddhism and tulpas is still very valid.
