Fake. The only scientific testing ever done it concluded that it dated to the middle ages. This also coincides exactly with the first historical mention of it (in a letter from a bishop to the pope saying that it was a fake, and he knew who had done it), its artistic style, and the medieval relic craze.

There's really no reason to believe it's real, unless you start listening to the biased, pseudoscience you find on the internet. Almost every claim you'll read about it on the internet is conjecture that has no basis in actual testing. Remember that the people most invested in this thing are invested in it because they think it literally proves their religion true. That means lots of people that have never even seen the shroud in person have made all kinds of weird claims about it, and these drown out the actual research that has been done.
