Honestly, probably some cool organisms. Might even change the way we see sea life or life in general.

I am pretty sure we know what is in more the 10 percent of the ocean. We have satellites that scan that shit and the terrain down there.
We may not know what's it the deepest parts due to inability to travel at that depth or see what is there due to darkness.
We should create that technology before we look at space though.

Giant squid and Colossal squid are 2 distinct, confirmed species. They are both scary in and of themselves but we have only ever seen a handful of specimens. What are the chances that any of the ones we have seen are anything like as big as they get? You don't catch record fish on your first try! You could fish for a lifetime and never catch a trout over 3lb, you'd be pretty sure that they can't get much bigger than that. You'd be wrong though, wild trout in the UK have gone over 30lb, globally much larger. What if the squid we have seen are just the babies?

This, plus there is the possibility of stirring up the silt by accidentally hitting it with your flippers. You panic and kick more which stirs up an even bigger cloud. Now the dark water is extremely clouded all around you and you get turned around. The only thing you can see with your flashlight is murk from the silt. Now you don't know which way in the cave is out; sending you in the wrong direction.

I read a story about an inexperienced diver who went into a cave and ended up getting stuck and rather than asphyxiate or drown he stabbed himself to death. Later, while trying to remove the body, a police diver also got stuck and died in the same fucking cave. Underwater caves are no bueno.

Surely you don't believe that inane story. Stabbing yourself to death would be a way worse death than drowning -- but let's pretend this guy felt otherwise. It'd be damn hard to swing a knife underwater fast enough to stab yourself to death. And if he was in a wet-suit even more so, but maybe he wasn't. Guess he could have slit his wrists. The whole story sounds too much of something old scuba divers tell the kids around a campfire at the bottom of the sea.

There is evidence of large under ground caves as big as counties and even states. They have oceans of water. Some exist at about 80 miles below our feet. If they were able to host any type of life, could you imagine the possibilities of what could be down there? Creatires we could never imagine, possibly in complete darkness and high pressure, isolated in their own world. Strange.
We can barely reach the bottom of our own oceans, let alone go miles underground
>>
The thing is, tagged whales dive pretty deep and basically never go missing. So if there were an underwater civilization or giant monstrous creatures there would probably be some anomaly there. It's a cool concept though. Could be massive nice animals, who knows.

If they got too much bigger they'd probably have trouble finding a stable food source. I can't imagine them being sustainable much past 50-60 feet. Unless they're eating something we don't know about or eating something we do know about in much larger numbers than previously thought, like taking down several whales a year.

Drowned and saved/reanimated scuba diver here.

Yeah, drowning isn't actually that bad.(allthough for me it was during an hard exercise gone wrong and i held my breath untill i passed the fuck out, sank and i didn't panic and started breathing water, water just started leaking into my lungs when i passed out).
It's relatively easy to supress the urge to breath long enough to get dizzy without panicking, from there on you're only 30-60 seconds away from fainting, then the water just does the rest.

Being stuck without breath and panicking is the real problem, the drowning itself isn't all that bad. Now stabbing yourself.... that would pretty awfull.
>>
>>18522195
Also same guy as above
>drowning is literally having your lungs crushed.

Lol whut, no it's not. It fainting and dying from a lack of oxygen in the brain. In the worst case you breath water, which sucks and will make you cough, your need for oxygen probably causing spasms but your lungs are not getting crushed. Damaged by the water and spasms at most.
>>
>>18527211
Thats how I would imagine it. I guess the panic/fear is the absolute worst part about it.

I read this one story of a cave diver getting separated and ending up in an open room that had a bank where the water ended and you could come up for air. He was so lost, ran out of air and died on the bank. Sick way to go. Rescue divers found him 2 weeks later. Read it in this book.

To be honest, while "not much" isn't true, "nothing really very exciting" is. Going to probably find tonnes of new species of holothurians, crustaceans and echinoderms down there.

The largest thing that's probably going to be found in the deep sea are new species of shark or ratfish chimera. Maybe some new type of large squid, but even then I doubt it would be monstrously huge.

The ocean floor hasn't been explored with cameras and biologists, but the entire ocean has been sonar'd beyond belief by every country's military and it's fairly predictable and uniform for huge stretches.

As I said, interesting stuff to come, but nothing exciting or game changing.

Radiation levels around Fukishima/Japan safety levels were raised to make citizens and the world feel safer while the incident is still a threat. Washed up hoards of dead animals on coasts have irregular high radiation levels in them. Things like that...
