If you want to perform your magic and alchemy undisturbed just get a storage unit. Keep it small but keep it focused. You can close the door and even invest in the climate control units so your work does not rot or fall into neglect. They are out of the way and have minimal monitoring outside of them doors. Inside it's free game. And best of all: no adventurers who can burst in at any given moment.
